Yes, it takes one amazing writer to be able to do that to a reader.
I didn't care for the book nor would I sit through a movie of of the same. There is a rich tapestry of King books to translate to the silver screen. Under The Dome would make a fascinating film.
I agree with Greg. King is rarely a lazy writer but Geralds Game and Cell are two cases where he didn't give a full effort. That being said a movie version might be better than the book.
