I agree with you,Carrie. While it is fiction, it makes one think of what it could be like when the rapture happens. I too have recommended the series to both Christians and non-Christians.
viable interpretations of Revelation. It approaches what I would call ,"Christian Secret Code", in a very literal way. The main problem whisc I don't have time or space to get into is that the writers are not consistent in the way they interpret revelation - by that I mean that they switch from literal to symbolical to suit their literary purposes. By and large OK but was put off by ( at least) no disclaimers - portrayed their view of things as literal fact. That is almost impossible when it comes to Revelation.
i have read the whole series twice and always recommend them. i have even bought them the ones they couldnt find. word of advice, find and buy ALL 12 books before you start reading them. dont do like i did and buy them 1 or 2 @ a time. a few are hard to find if you dont buy then @ book stores. i found my set @ yard sales and thrift stores. hope you enjoy.
Definitely a yay, I couldn't put these down. I haven't been one for Christian fiction as I am a serious student of the Bible and don't waste my time on reading things I don't feel are 100% acurate. However this series gives a true life feeling of what it would be like. The study of Bible prophecy is amazing to put next to the daily newspaper.. example Israel after 2000 years became a nation in one day in the 40's, the mark of the best in greek is "IN YOUR HAND" like a chip rather than a tattoo, The church being Judged for all the phoneys and those that really love God sticking out, etc.. all said I thought this book gave a "feeling" of what it would feel like to be there. I enjoyed the series immensely.
As a Christian I feel that the authors took liberties on some of the "teachings" of the books that make some of what is not Biblically based to be presented as such. Make sense? Kind of like Hollywood "sensationalizes" Yes, Christ will come again, BUT I believe when the end of the world comes, Christ will come, take up the believers & the non believers will be left...not for a second chance.... That is forefit once they die physically.
I enjoyed everyone of the 16, I read them each and loved everything about them. I am a christian. I had hard time putting them down.
I think it is individual whether you should read it or not. I have read and listened to the audo books on many of them. In reading, one has to realize that many different end time views exists among "Christians", some seem to go a bit extreme, which makes me view these as works of Christian FICTION. According to the books view....once the end time comes, there is tribulation & people left behind get a second chance. In the Bible, there is no second chance once the end time comes. Yes, there are times of trials, but once Christ Comes, the Christians will be lifted up, the non believers will be LEFT BEHIND. This means they have REJECTED God's gift.... up until this time, yes, there are open arms. This series sets up an ideal that gives some people a false hope that they can do what they want thru life and when the end comes and becomes reality and they die....they will get a second chance. People can repent during death...but once they die....it's the path they have freely chosen. I think thise series started out as a work of Fiction but became almost cult-ish in it's following... If you go into it knowing that these waring factions exist, you can enjoy them as works of Fiction. It's much like today's movies coming out by secular artests...per say...NOAH.... they take just enough of the Biblical truths and values, but turn a twist on areas which don't fool the true Christian, but can confuse or turn aside the searching souls.
I enjoyed them all. I am a Christian and so it meant something to me to see a version of what might happen at the rapture. I loved the characters and how God put them at the right place to use them. All in the series were great but about the last three books to me lacked the that excitement of the first ones. It struggled to stay fresh but the payoff in the end is what we all waited for.
Catholics know that the bestselling "Left Behind" books and movies have grossly perverted Catholicism's biblical "rapture" doctrine - the only "rapture" view before 1830.
The 2000-year-old Catholic "rapture" (the "caught up" in I Thess. 4:17) occurs AFTER the final "tribulation" (post-tribulation) while the 185-year-old evangelical Protestant "rapture" supposedly occurs BEFORE it (pre-tribulation) and is said to be "imminent."
All Catholics should read journalist Dave MacPherson's "The Rapture Plot" (available by calling 800.643.4645) - the most accurate documentation on the history of the pretrib rapture which began in British cultic circles in 1830. By twisting Scripture, this new doctrine gave folks the (false) hope of being evacuated from earth before the chaos found in the book of Revelation.
"The Rapture Plot" reveals, for the first time, how a Plymouth Brethren historian, after John Darby's death, secretly and dishonestly changed the earliest "rapture" writings of the Irvingites (the first group publicly teaching a pretrib rapture) so that he could wrongfully credit P.B. leader Darby with "dispensationalism" as well as with that rapture view! (Some still view Darby as the "father of dispensationalism" even though MacPherson's book amply proves that Darby wasn't first or original with any crucial aspect of that system but subtly plagiarized others!)
The leading pretrib rapture merchandisers (Scofield, Lindsey, LaHaye etc.) are openly anti-Catholic and believe that the Antichrist during the coming tribulation will be headquartered in Rome (and you can guess where!).
For more shocks Google "Catholics Did NOT Invent the Rapture," "The Real Manuel Lacunza," "Pseudo-Ephraem Taught Pretrib - NOT!," "John Darby Did NOT Invent the Rapture," "Margaret Macdonald's Rapture Chart" (she originated the pretrib rapture!), "Edward Irving is Unnerving," "Famous Rapture Watchers," "Evangelicals Use Occult Deception," "Pretrib Hypocrisy," and "Pretrib Rapture Dishonesty."
