I found that so frustrating. I can't imagine a patron of the law obstructing justice like that.
Parents will go to great lengths to protect their child. Every day the news is full of parents who staunchly believe in their children's innocence despite the most compelling of evidence.
But if he truly believed his son innocent, wouldn't he have at least checked the knife? You can tell what sort of knife (serrated edges, etc.) was the murder weapon. So why not turn in that knife and have it tested for blood or similarities if he was so convinced? I think he wanted to protect his son, but I don't think he believed his son innocent.
