Here are the things I've encountered at a number of used bookstores where I enjoy shopping:
* I call to see if they are buying in the next hour. They say yes; I get there; they aren't.
* I somehow hauled (before I was disabled) three huge boxes of books in great condition to the counter. They chose 6 books they wanted and told me I could leave the rest "for charity" (I'll bet) or take with me. Gave me $1.25.
* Gone during their buying times and there is no one at the counter. I ask someone for help; they go by in a blur. I give up and leave.
On the other hand, I always have friends, colleagues, family to whom I owe favors, and it is a small and easy thing to save a bag of books I think may be to their taste, and just give them to them. My daughter's school has a book trade annually, and as mentioned, I don't mind if I leave a lot more than I take away, because they will likely end up in the hands of students and staff. That's a win-win.

As for my question, I have done all of the above except trade.
When the book Marley & Me came out I purchased it, read it within a day, next day we had a Garage Sale, and sold it with 9 other books for a dime.
I usually sell my books cheap because I figure there's a lot of people out there that cannot afford books.
