A.R. Simmons I'm still reading, but considering Kipling's feelings for India, perhaps it's the Raj, or perhaps for life itself. I'd appreciate other thoughts.

Kipling was native to India so I think most of his stories are set there. I don't think Kim is allegorical, it's just really thorough in its description of life in India at that time. It's really far-removed from it's audience, who I imagine were mostly English.

A.R. Simmons I appreciate your comment, but respectfully disagree. Of course Kipling's audience was English speaking. He had a large following here (US) for sure.
I think there is more to Kim, however, than just an adventure story set in exotic India. When I finish reading it, I will write a review.
