YAY, can't wait. Love your knowledge of the Elizabethan timeframe William exists in. Love, too, how period-esque the timber of the words you use, are. It reads as if one were in Elizabethan England, but modern-day english enough so it's readable. It adds a lot to the whole ambiance of the story. I'm half way through A Necessary Killing - William got whisked off to St. Malo. I've researched and found a number of 16th and 17th century maps of St. Malo. My favorite with decent resolution is here: http://www.leclere-mdv.com/html/fiche...
Thanks for your kind words, especially about the language. It was tricky to balance readability with a sense of being there. Some readers find it offputting and slow, but I have to write that way now. It helps me to imagine the scenes and dialogue.
I love your use of language, it gives the story a beautiful authenticity that a reader couldn't add imagining say physical features like era costuming. My adjective to you for working this feature into your stories is: Brilliant. I also forgot to mention how very much I appreciate your adding in info on the real characters, their dates and a short bio at the end of the book. As it is, I research out images and dates of characters in my historical fiction reads, making a folder for a series. It helps me visualize individuals and get an idea what age they are as they relate to one another. Thank you Paul. I'm a delighted reader.
