Just as another perspective - I did not find it offensive at all. I spent a good six years barely living because I thought it was better than the surgery would be. Eventually I didn't have a choice and ended up with an ileostomy and found it very hard to wrap my head around having it. I was young, reasonably attractive and it really messed with my perceptions of my attractiveness and my self-worth. I totally understood how Suzette felt and thought you wrote it well. I mean, I didn't really like much else about her, but at least I understood her fears in that regard.
