Pam Wong Hi Lisa,

Mom’s sister was Marion LEE. Auntie Marion b 1905 played with Sissy when they were young girls. My mom’s family lived in a cold water flat in old Chinatown at 802 North Alameda Street, Los Angeles, California, across the courtyard from the back of Fong See’s store. They had to vacate the flat in the late 1920s when the buildings were razed to clear the way for the building of the new Union Railway Station.

Grandfather LEE Thing retired, closed his store (Leland’s Men’s Furnishings) & bought a home on 27th Street near San Pedro. A man of many hats, he had owned a cigar factory in SF, later was the English spokesman for KMT fundraising in L.A., an English/Chinese speaking agent for the
Dollar Steamship Line & a translator for the U.S. Immigration Department. AKA Lee Lun. Wife: Shee CHAN.

Children: Marion b. 1905 (Lincoln HS, Northwestern U), Walter b. 1913 (Polytech, Merchant Marine Academies & Naval School), George b. 1911 (Jefferson HS, USC), & Edna b. 1917 (Jefferson HS, LA City College). Anna Mueller helped Grandmother birth all but Marion.

We have stories written about Grandfather LEE Thing, Walter LEE, and George LEE. I just self-published a family history called THE MYSTERY AUSSIE of a Chinese migrant to Australia (on my husband’s side) about which I am speaking tomorrow here. http://smcgs.org The book has garnered a lot of interest. I am interested in submitting it to a publisher.

Pam

Lisa See This is all so interesting. Thank you for sharing more of your family's story with me. I'm going to ask Sissee's daughter about your mom.
