That's a big question; especially these days, with everything going. on. It's a huge temptation to just get angry (been there. Done that). The verse in Hebrews (Abraham believed God and it was counted as righteousness) sounds a LOT simpler than it was at the time. I'm sure Abraham will have stories to tell.

Now, onto your question. Well, I don't happen to care for authors who show such HATRED for their characters Agatha Christie referred to Hercule Poirot as DETESTABLE. Someone who deserved to be hated. To me, as a reader, that basically says, "Dear Poirot fan. I wasted my time and yours on a character who I wish never existed." It's akin to the author spitting in the reader's face.

I got MAD at her betrayal. But then..... I got even. That thumbnail is the cover of a fan-fiction anthology I wrote. I can't publish it, traditionally, but I did create a pdf file for the full story for anyone who wants to read. The title story, 'The Execution of Agatha Christie" was....Faustian. In it, I gave Agatha the Poirot free life she wanted, and then I got what I wanted.

If you're familiar with Stephen King's Misery, I felt a bit like Annie Wilkes but writing as Paul (or Paula) Sheldon. It was cathartic.

I DO understand the need for writers to explore different venues. Honest. And I have no problem with an author's letting a character go. It's HOW that character was treaded by the author when he or she was alive....that's where I have the issue. Truth to tell, Poirot was better off dead than at the mercy of that ungrateful woman!

Hope that helps. Hmmmm Gotta wonder if Stephen King prefers the 21st Century "Annie Wilkes" (someone writing fan-fiction of his stories to suit their idea) or the one in the book/ movie?

If you do happen to talk to Mr. King, would you be willing to ask him, just for fun.

Thanks,, again, for your reply! 👏

Ooops! One word should be TREATED not TREADED. This site needs an EDIT button!

Jerry Jenkins Interesting. I was in touch with Stephen on his birthday last month and try not to overstay my welcome, but I just might ask him your question some day. :)
