If you are interested in emerging writers you may want to check out Laurel Hightower. She is about to come out with her 3rd book. Her first, "Whispers in the Dark" follows a lady detective through a personal mystery involving the supernatural. Her second "Crossroads" focuses on a mother. They are both in the Horror genre, but the focus is on well developed characters experiencing personal development. Laurel is also the daughter of Lynn Hightower, an established serial novelist. So Laurel has been around writing all her life, giving her a leg up on writing skills many other may lack particularly in the beginning.
I'd like to recommend Eva St John's "Quantum Curator" series. It is parallel world sf with a form of time travel. The Quantum Curators are travelling from their supposedly perfect alpha world, to beta world - ours - and rescuing artwork just as it is about to be destroyed. But things are rather more complex than that. The world building and people are fascinating. I particularly like the second book, when the beta world's character Welsh grandma has a presence in the story.
I'll thank you once again, Lois, for suggesting Ben Aaronovitch. The Rivers of London has been great fun. I'll also bring up T. Kingfisher who I discovered at your suggestion. The Saint of Steel books, the Clocktaur War, and her other "not horror" books are wonderfully written. I'll also throw out a kudo for one of my other favorites that I know holds your writing in very high regard: Patricia Briggs. Patty's a big fan of the VK's and I find her Mercy Thompson & Alpha & Omega books are not far off your earlier works in tone and quality. Not to say your later stuff is slacking, just that you've embraced a less "dramatic" and more comfortable feel IMHO. I thoroughly love it (surviving cancer can do that to your tastes).

To Fauna, I suggest Juliet E McKenna. Her contemporary urban fantasy with British folklore elements might suit. As might her older Tales of Einarinn series.
