Heather I agree - his parents sent him there to advance/protect his father's career, but from his mother's behavior and remarks I got that they were "true believers" in the Nazi Reich.

Sherry Nassar I haven't read the book yet, but seeing all of your reviews, I know I must. I learned about the Holocaust when I was 5. My mom told me as much as she thought she could (by today's standards of what to tell children when - it may have been a little early since it haunted me and led to so many nightmares. On the other hand, I wouldn't be who I am today and how I feel about thingss
