Kate Davenport Also, exploding the earthworms wasn't his intent, it was the unexpected result of an experiment. The result of the experiment could just as easily have been that the "soul" if the sacrificed earthworm just wouldn't stick to the next one.

Jerri Penric's experimental/scientific nature is consistently shown. There are a number of different experiments on mice, especially the induced narcolepsy. But that doctor in Physicians of Vilnoc who let the ill rat bite him surpassed Penric's experimental nature, since the bite by the "blue witch" fly wasn't Pen's idea.
