The Devil in the White City is my all time favorite book. I'd say you did amazing job of interweaving stories, I couldn't read it fast enough. You have a life long fan in me; I'd read the phonebook if you wrote it:)
I concur. I cannot count how many times I have recommended and/or bought copies of The Devil in the White City for others. I am SO glad you DID publish it. It was brilliantly done and aside from already fully enjoying getting to read about the task and skill and method of how YOU go about the itch in the back of a writer's being to actually get TO the writing, I also wanted to commend your not only bringing the history to the present, but you do so in a way that almost creates another sub-genre of NARRATIVE historical writing that brings out the lack of age specificity you seem to be writing to an audience of readers. That is one of the things that I've noted as I recommend the book to people who just say they love Chicago, are from there, like me, aren't big on non-fiction but after giving them the "back cover" summary, sell them anyway, people that love that personal "zoom in" point of view you write your narrative of something historically gargantuan (and best of all, often overlooked in history in several cases) and not a single instance of age of the other person coming into the motivation or interest. I managed to even get my father and aunt who read avidly, but in my opinion, terrible formula fiction garbage. (Yes, my dad knows my opinion, but shh anyway. :-D)
I'm terribly behind on my entire reading list which does include more of your work, but I will say this: The Devil in the White City is what truly put Chicago on the "need to visit and isn't far from my own historically rife city of residence, Memphis, so now a must go in the future" list for me.
