As a librarian, I'm unsure about any specific reason it's going in the teen section of places, but it probably just depends on who's in charge of putting it on the shelves. In my library, it's being put in the middle grade section with the rest of the books in the universe, and I know my local Target stocks it the same way.
In my library, Percy Jackson series, Trials of Apollo, and the Kane Chronicles are all in Young Teen, while The Heroes of Olympus and Magnus Chase series are in Juvenile! It really depends on your library/library cataloguer.
bruv im literally queer but it doesnt have to homophobia? like if i were a librarian and saw something along the lines of LGBTQ then i would also put it in the YA section cuz i feel like that be the target demographic
Of course it's bland homophobia. It's always been this way that anything LGBTQ is assumed to be more "adult". Denying that is childish. Whether the person doing the miscategorizing is homophobic (internalized or not; it doesn't matter whether they are queer or not) or fearful that some parent is going to lose their mind that the eeeevil bookstore is going to turn their perfect, straight child by having the book in the age group it belongs in...either way it's still stemming from run of the mill homophobia.
So many people are shouting "homophobia!" that it's like crying wolf! Totally loosing its meaning. Meanwhile, I'm in the middle of reading this book, and in my opinion it's a harder read than Rick's previous books. I see children putting it down a few pages in, whereas the YA age group wouldn't have an issue.
Adults can feel weird going into the children's section when they don't have kids with them. There's also younger teens that read middle grade books so often libraries may have copies of books in both sections, for different audiences. It's likely not a censorship thing
I think this could just be a matter of depending on the library or bookstore too bc I went to a barnes & nobles at the mall today and there was a table filled with The Sun and the Star in the kids section (completely separate from the YA section downstairs) and the cover was absolutely beautiful! alas hardcovers are way too expensive for me to buy but I'm so excited that Nico and Will's story has finally been released!!!
At my local library, they usually put the original pjo in the childrens section with heroes of olympus and trials of apollo in the ya section, with the others bouncing around. As far as I know it just kinda random, since its known as a middle grade series.
