Byerly is my favorite side character. I keep hoping you will be inspired to devote a book to him.
I can just see Alys and Simon retiring to some semi-tropical vacation spot to run a nice little hotel and charter fishing place. Simon in a Hawaiian shirt and Alys with her hair down. Was it Miles who once thought, "If I do turn the old pile (Vorkosigan House) into a hotel, I'll have Aunt Alys run it"? or something to that effect.
"that unfortunate little architectural incident back home." I can just see By referring to it that way.
Thanks for the synopsis. I enjoy it very much when you take a minor character and make them into an interesting person.

I figure most minor characters are interesting people that we just haven't had time to meet yet.

Where do Jacksonians go when they want to retire?
One hopes we get a chance to meet some of those minor, interesting characters. Byerly would be great fun, I think.
