Jacob Proffitt If you want one with the same tilt towards action, The Talisman Ring is a delight. Slightly earlier than Regency, but same kind of adventure shenanigans with a romance layered in.

Jerri My husband is very fond of the family story Frederica.

Ay For shenanigans generally, the grand sophy.

Peter Lawson Thank you Lois, and thank you to Jacob, Jerry and Ay. I've got the next few sorted. I read the Quiet Gentleman while waiting for Lois' pronouncement, and enjoyed that as well. I confess Ii figured out whodunit before the big reveal!

Peggy B Freddy!

Peter Lawson Yep, just finished Frederica. Had some echoes of Emma, I reckon

MKennedy A college friend recommended Georgette Heyer to me about 50 years ago. I read many other genres, but I still go back and read Heyer's books for the fun of it. She was a really good historian as well as the ability to create interesting characters and historically accurate periods.

Peter Lawson Just read the Grand Sophie. A rip roaring read, with many amusing interludes. Two less than nice points, the antisemitic portrayal of the money lender, and (spoiler) marrying a first cousin.
I tried and gave up on Cotillion, but will give it another go. A Civil Contract A Convenient Marriageand the Talisman Ring have all been mentioned, so will give those a go as well.

Ay Yes. That bit in the grand sophy makes my eyes go very wide and reminds me of the mind set in the days it was written.

message 11: by Norine Luker (new)

Norine Luker Toll Gate is very adventuresome. The Foundling is also very adventuresome.
