This comment is a mish-mashed response to this, and the previous question regarding Morgenstern's "The Night Circus". I was just looking up the Amazon listing for that book and noticed a Q&A section with the author where she describes how her book originated in "a location created out of desperation" for a "different story altogether." Her whole answer is very interesting, and I mention it here because it sounds like an entirely different method to develop a novel. Not making comparisons at all, I'm just fascinated by how our unique minds tackle the creative process in so many different ways. I've read elsewhere (can't remember where) how some authors are inspired by beautiful words or phrases, while others are inspired by imagery which they then put into words.
I do have to say that what I have always loved about your books are the characters. The plots are fabulous too. Always satisfying to read and I enjoy this forum where we are treated to these insights to your creative process.

The link to that amazon listing with the Q&A is here if anyone is curious....
