Regarding the "Canonization of the Vor caste": When they became a closed caste to outsiders/newcomers, with the rules regarding marriage and inheritance, rather than appointment via merit, being formalized. As Aral put it, "We're only Vor because some dead Emperor declared one of our dead ancestors so."
Also, the image of Miles and/or Mark as a human cannonball just popped into my head. I pity the people on the receiving end.
Mark would make a good cannonball. Miles, more like a spear . . .

I'm guessing "canonization" equals the point at which they stopped making new people Vor in recognition of warriorish service? Although I don't especially remember any canonical mention of exactly when that happened.
