I'd really like to think that the Bastard is capable of offering Des a better fate than nothingness. Surely He can do better for her.
In the real world, I’m not religious, so I think nothingness is the destiny of everyone and everything, sooner or later. However, true, in the World of the Five Gods, most humans seem able to reach a vaguely pleasant afterlife; so it would be nice to think that Desdemona might have that option too. Unfortunately, the way the universe (any universe) works is not necessarily nice.
What a demon knows of being taken back by the God is probably not any more detailed than what humans know of it.
Cazaril has a vision of what the beginning of the process is like for humans, but like our own existence, that experience is very rare in the 5 Gods books.
I would hope that something not unlike Caz's experience is true for demons, and like the rest of us, of course they fear it, because it is so very unknown and uncertain.
Alas for it is headcanon but I am of the opinion that Pen will ladle off a portion of his soul so that Des is composed of soulstuff and demonstuff, and so can move on to an afterlife more fun than oblivion. After all, that's how the Great Souled Man was able to ensnare the -- for lack of better term - Demon King. And for all that it is strongly implied that the Great Souled Man was the first Sorcerer, the way dy Cabon tells the story makes it sound like the demon and the man remained two separate entities. So, that's how I choose to believe Des will end her days -- crossing over the rainbow bridge with Pen hand in hand.
Another thought - since Des is just the "memories" of her prior human riders, and THEIR souls were taken up by their god upon their deaths, is it possible that there would be some (rare) method of uniting the "future memories" with those "past souls" of the components of Des in the afterlife? I think we all hate thinking about Des evaporating into chaos when it is her time to go.
