Des explains their differing reactions to the Bastard at the end of ‘Demon Daughter’ that Atto is too young to be corrupt and so doesn’t fear Him, and Des is too old not to be corrupt and so fears being taken by Him. Is there any possible fate for a demon other than their destruction at some point, either by a Saint of the Bastard after ascending their host, or by the Bastard Himself for killing a person?

Answer unknown at this time. If there is another fate, it is very rare.
The third method of destruction for a demon is to be stuck somewhere when their host dies with no other possible living host within jumping range. In which case they more-or-less evaporate. (Neither plants nor insects can support a demon, nor most cold-blooded animals except the very largest.)

Having now read all your novels, I’m more convinced than ever you’d appreciate Miyazaki’s long Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind manga. (Its story overlaps with only the beginning of the movie.) He spent 11 years on it, probably his best work. Vivid characters, deeply moving, purposeful world building, nothing cliché or even particularly familiar. If you’re exploring some manga, why not?
