I grok this last part completely. A non-formal client once pressed me several times over the course of an evening for some sort of title they could call me rather than my name. Lacking one but knowing they would be dropping by again any moment (they had already made Strong Eye Contact again from across the room), I found myself writing "Vessel Of Articulation" on a piece of scratch paper and propping it in front of myself. The look on their face after reading it was remarkably similar to the one I get when I'm about to sneeze and someone yells "Bless You!" first, *before* I sneeze, and then I can't, and it is trapped inside my face.
