There was a series of mysteries for young people all of which were set in National Parks by Troy Nesbit. Those were a favorite of mine.
Heidi by Johanna Spyri. It was a gift on my 10th birthday from an aunt. My favorite scene is when Heidi, an orphan who had lived with her Aunt Didi since her parents died, lies in the loft of her grandfather's cabin on a fragrant bed of hay and looks up through the opening in the roof at the stars and feels she is finally at home.
