Thank you for this. I think it's so important (as a rape survivor who was raped by her professor) to note that you really can't do much to protect against an assault. No matter how smart you are, how vigilant, how educated, it can still happen to you. And if fact, most rapes are committed by someone the victim knows.
I 100% agree with you that the focus needs to shift from the victim-blamey act of expecting the victim to protect his or herself, and look at what we can do to hold assaulters accountable and teach others not to assault.
