In your Small Press assessment, you missed going to conventions to sell.

I know that may not seem like much, but for instance I publish in a very niche market, where most book sales happen at conventions. My publisher goes to 10 conventions a year, and if they aren't there, another small press will distribute for them.

I guess it depends on the small press. I've been with two and neither one of them went to conventions and sold. Do they move a lot of copies during them? My experience is most time selling at conventions doesn't pay for the cost of going to them - but that may just be me and my books. I guess your small press publisher is seeing better results, or they wouldn't keep going.
