Thanks for your answer! Ah, that's right. It completely slipped my mind that Vasya is a male nickname in Russia. One thing about Russian that gives me a headache is that many of their male nicknames are pretty common female names/nicknames in my language. In fact, I've had multiple classmates named Vasya (all girls), sometimes as a nickname from something longer and sometimes as a proper name. So when I saw it, I didn't at all think, "that's a male name," but now that you mention it, yes, it would be. I like your choice -- the other versions do look weird when latinized, and Vasya is short and sweet. Still, it would be interesting to hear what native Russian speakers think of that.
