Judy Ken Stott was the most convincing incarnation of Rebus, but mostly TV gets it so wrong! I loathed what was done to Peter Wimsey (Dorothy L Sayers), to Adam Dalgliesh (P.D. James), to Thomas Lynley and Barbara Havers (Elizabeth George), and especially the travesty that purports to be Alan Banks (Peter Robinson). I can't bear to watch any of these. I prefer my fictional detectives on the page. So just forget TV, Ian, and write another book.

Simon Excellent. The Rebus stories definitely do deserve a full commitment if they're going to be translated for TV.

Phil Definitely. Stick to your guns there Ian. I've never read any of the Bosch books but I like the way they've been serialised - 2-3 books 'combined' over 10 episodes.

Janine I wish further series would be make especially Ken Stott playing the part. I've been re-watching them again and crave more, even got my other half watching and enjoying them

Iftekhar Shaikh Sure but I guess Scandinavian TV might be a perfect choice.

Cheryl David Tennant would make a great Rebus! It's who I always picture.

Kate Like Judy mentioned, I really liked Ken Stott as Rebus (I refer to him as Rebus in "the Hobbit" movie trilogy... no idea what his dwarf name is. I can't recall if I liked him originally as Rebus, but he definitely grew on me as I watched the episodes. I was definitely no a fan of the format of those shows though. Too much in a Rebus book to cram an entire one in a 1-hour episode (or whatever the too-short length of those was). Phil Williams mentioned Bosch. I read several of that series many years ago and mainly forgot them but I do agree that the series is well done. Why hasn't Amazon or Netflix jumped all over Rebus?

John Hollis Yes, I agree with Cheryl Gautreau, David Tennant would be terrific

Finding the right cast would be arduous. I am particularly fascinated with the choice of Titus Welliver for Harry Bosch and how wonderful that has been for tv. How to find a Rebus?
