Kyla Belvedere Beth, this is one of the reasons both myself and my students enjoy your writing so much. It is one thing to read to escape your own life, but it is another to be able to escape IN TO someone else's life. This is what I feel with your books, and why I recommend the books to others. It is a healthy coping mechanism to be able to put your feelings aside, and feel those feelings through other "people". For example, reading about the fear Amy felt when she thought she would be raped, and seeing how it continues in her life, helps my students address their own traumas and how the feelings play in their lives. The characters, their feelings, and their situations encourage empathy as well as solidarity. I appreciate your work because of this.
