I agree sexual content is not the only thing that makes a story for younger readers inappropriate. I never gave thought about Anita in high school but thinking now I would love to read it. You don't have to make it a YA book. You have lots of fans that would read anything u make.
I remember highschool in the 70's, we had TONS of sex!! Heck we were secretly reading Penthouse forums in 4th grade. Shockingly, everybody turned out very OK, well educated, doing great.
