Actually, I think I can ask it here since I'm allowed more exposition in my replies. :) I'm part way through 'The Calling'. I've noticed the description is getting more detailed after Chris becomes Chris, gets closer to becoming a vampire. I was particularly struck by the detail when Chris enters Victor's 'lair'...
‘There was a single black wall with a red painting in a brushed nickel frame. It was one of those trendy pictures full of red-on-red smears that any child could do, but the ultrarich snapped up with no regard for price. Under the picture was a glossy white table with a crystal bowl. My gaze followed the polished white floors for the length of the entry to the view of the city. The windows were trimmed in black, giving the effect that each pane of glass was its own paneling. The lights of the city grabbed my attention as they vanished into Mt. Hamilton, in the distance.’
The imagery foreshadowed and expanded upon what we readers already knew of Victor's character, along with Chris's impression of him. Brilliant bit of description you had going there...well done. Did anything in particular inspire this?
