My stepmother in-law’s parents escaped from Vienna and lived in China during the war. Her brother was born in China. Her parents eventually immigrated to the states and she was born in the U.S.
I am presently reading the" Song of the Jade Lily", the story of an family of Austrian Jews who escaped to Shanghai. I have not seen this documentary but the story is fascinating as is Shanghai itself. I love your story" Shanghai Girls" and its follow-up. Actually, I have loved every one of your stories that I have read, including the mysteries. Thanks for the many adventures you have taken me on with you. I have learned so much.
