I love that you realized you were "wasting time" and jumped right anyway. My dad refused to ever go golfing with friends because he didn't want to go through the "I'll be bad at it and have to learn." Well, golf is one thing and things that are calling us are something else. And oh, the things we miss if we don't listen to what's calling! You write so well, it's a joy to read. My favorite line so far: "All right. Yeah. Fine. That's me, grace under fire."
Hey, Karen. I just returned to Goodreads after a long hiatus and saw you commented and I had inadvertently ignored it. "Oh, the things we miss if we don't listen to what's calling!" You are so right. I heard a story years ago that has stuck with me. A woman said that her 43-year-old daughter had decided to enter medical school, and she said to her: "But Victoria, that will be so hard and you'll be 50 before you can even set up your practice." To which her daughter replied "Mother, I'm going to be 50 regardless. I'd rather be 50 and be a doctor, too." It's that idea that we think it's too late, we've already chosen our path, or waited too long that holds so many of us back, when in reality, we just need to start from wherever we are and do it. It's amazing how far we can go.
