I was actually referring to the cloaks ability to change its form to suit his needs rather than the black hole aspect. Imagine if Erick and the LOS worked together to accomplish the same with the best suit of armor Erick could make. It would be like the symbiotic suit Eddy Brock uses. Erick would never need to change clothes again and if he ever gets ambushed he could instantly have a godly relic suit of armor on to protect himself. Try to get a stake through that vampire hunters. It would be difficult to accomplish and require a lot of work for the both of them but the benefits could not be overstated. Hell, given the semi-autonomous nature of the cloak of nothing the suit of infinite wardrobes could even act on its own to armor up Erick it it perceives a threat before Erick does. Plus, imagining the look on Mary's face as Erick's whole outfit shifts like the cloak of nothing has me ROTFLOL.
The primary difficulty there is the cloak seems to have some aspect of Eric's daylight limitations. At night, it switches around just fine. During the day, it changes shape extremely slowly and does not seem to have any other abilities.
Even within those limitations the value of the armor of infinite wardrobes would still be enormous. Yes, during the day the armor might take more time to transform into a three piece suit in a 21 century earth or a toga in an ancient Greek analogue but it STILL transform. Even with the transformations taking up to a couple of minutes the versatility and protection it offers cannot be overstated. Hell, given that a full suit of armor has already been proven to protect Erick from burning during his transformations that advantage alone would make it worth the effort it would to make such a relic. Imagine if he had been wearing it when the cars dropped on him. It would have been able to cover him in armor to prevent him from being burned while the cloak of nothing was distracting the goons by trying to eat that guys face.
While the transformation from a toga to a suit is not unreasonable during the day (although somewhat time-consuming), altering more fundamental physical qualities may be a bit outside its capabilities. Being a shield (as a hole into nothingness) isn't much of a stretch at night. Being a breastplate during the day? A vest, certainly, but something both rigid and strong? We haven't seen any indication it can do that.
To the lab vamp man! I sense the need for an experiment! I would like to point out though that while the cloak of nothing was a shield it did in fact alter its fundamental properties. It only used the hole trick to absorb the magical blasts from the boojum. The rest of the time it acted like an actual metal shield to block the boojum's mace. That means it went from a flexible fabric cloak that gives under pressure (shown when Erick was struck through the cloak and ended up with broken bones before the cloak decided to become a shield) to a rigid metallic material capable of absorbing the godly blows without issue. With that clear example there is absolutely no reason why the armor of infinite wardrobes couldn't accomplish the reverse. Also, if the cloak or the theoretical armor makes the shift at night would it stay that way during the day?
BTW, I love the back and forth. The way you take the time to discuss these questions with your fans is really amazing and I feel it makes the worlds you have created feel that much more real when you try to figure out if something will work within the laws you have created. A lot of fantasy authors I have read seem to just rewrite the laws of their worlds on a whim to try and make something they find interesting happen in their books.
I do like consistency.
And, as a note, the cloak seems to only be a fabric during the day. It can do much more at night.
Although, to be fair, it might be possible to use it as a body bag for a sunrise or sunset. Armor? Not so much.
So could Erick accomplish it with something like spider silk fabric or enchanted armor? Even that would give him a great deal of protection while it would still allow the armor of infinite wardrobe to mimic most outfits during the day. Then at night, when he has the most magical vulnerabilities, it could become something like shadowsteel plate armor in times of extreme danger like when he had those vamps burn down his house in orb. It might offer less protection that way but it should work within the rules of the universe, offer him a great deal of versatility when jumping between worlds, and still might be able to stop a surprise holy dagger from slipping between his ribs.
