With the blue box, what if a room in the apocalypse world was used and the one door could connect to other blue boxes, or he could pull out a wooden platform he can toss that will pop up into a blue box. Also, the whole world of apocalypse could be the interior. This is when he could use keys to switch between doors when he's in apocalypse. He can pop back then twist a key then pop right into the world he wants to visit next. People would just assume they're on the same world and it's bigger on the inside. The keys could also turn into a very complicated console in the center of the room that needs lots of buttons pressed.
Don't think for a second he hasn't thought about it. It's just complicated to set up so it works smoothly. The biggest problem is the time differential. Going from nighttime to daytime in a single step is a no-good way to treat a vampire!
