I really like George RR Martin's SciFi horrors in Dreamsongs.
Henry James, The Turn of the Screw, would be a pretty obvious choice. You also might look at Algernon Blackwood's stories
Camilla by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu vampire stop ry predating Dracula.
Charles Stross's "Equoid" is available for free on the Tor website. It's one of my favorites. It's about the length you're looking for.
