That's awesome, Andy! Any idea on when we might be able to get our hands on it yet?
The deeply technical aspect was one of the best parts. I hope you will still keep it believable and acceptably scientifically accurate.
I agree with Michael... I loved the combination of deeply scientific, sci-fi action and humor. It was just perfect in every way. Looking forward to reading your next, but would love to see additional technical books in the future, if you think you're up to it... or are even interested after all the research involved in the Martian.
I think that technical side made your book unique and made so believable. Plus the humor. A pity next one is going to have aliens FTL and such. I hope I'm wrong and it will be even better :-)
The extremely detailed technical part of the Martial was my preferred aspect of the book. I love traditional sic-fi and aliens, not quite fan of FTL and telepathy, but I trust you and want to read your new book !!
I also hope you stick with lots of detail. It's details that make a story seem real. Glad you're hard at work already working on your next story. Your last one was just wonderful.
I would love to see you write a book with FTL, light speed effects and interstellar travel that contains technical details but more importantly is mathematically accurate like The Martian. So many novels just gloss over it. "They traveled at warp 9 through subspace and arrived at New New York 2 in three days." Or investigate if it would even be possible to employ trade or govern over those long times and distances. The Forever War is the closest book I can think of -- really messes with your head.
Sounds awesome. We need more 'Star Trek'-esque stuff, especially from a master author who knows how to write hard sci-fi and not just cheesy old fantasy-sci-fi!
your debut novel was astounding and ground breaking. i am excited to see whats next from you. i also love your short stories too. the 'ready player one' was especially cool read.
I think your technical mind was brilliantly portrayed in The Martian and encourage you to keep writing. No matter what it is I'll read it. But I think your fans will want more of the same and your unique interests and personality make you best suited to tackle technical hard sf and make it believable and entertaining.
Mr Weir I need to warn you about two things though, if you write about FTL you will be violating a proven axiom of science, if you write about FTL within the context of Alcubierre warp bubble you will be repeating Interstellar, how will you solve this dilemma?
YAAY! I can't wait.
I want a little something tho, can you explain the characters looks a little bit more, from the start? Like if they are blond, black or ginger etc. It will be easier to paint a picture then. And you are one of my fav writers, i loved all of your answers at the end of Martian kindle e-book.
ouuuuu i can't wait to get my hands on Zhek!!!!! To those who haven't gotten their hands on The Martian book, check them out here http://www.bookdepository.com/The-Mar... for only $10.37!
I just wanna thank you for what a great job, I definitely enjoy so much by THE martian journey.!!!!!
Andy, would be a sequel?, think about it, if so I'll buy it, have some ideas my email magnustat@hotmail.com
I am pretty sure Andy Weir was being sarcastic about his new book.
No way is he actually writing a fantasy fiction book after writing one of the better hard science fiction book to come out in a long time.
Not having aliens, FTL travel, telepathy, etc... is what makes The Martian so great.
As I mentioned above. Andy Weir was being sarcastic about what his new book.... https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...
He talks about it on the latest Tested podcast. Search for "Welcome Back Andy Weir! - Still Untitled" on YouTube.
I loved The Martian, chose it as the next book to read, just as the movie came out. I could hear everyone’s eyeballs roll. Well they loved it, had never read Sci Fi some skipped the technical stuff, everyone finished it, then we went to the theater and loved It. I saw it twice, read the book and then listened to it.
This is in my top 10 list, I’ve been reading for 55 years!
Loving Project Hail Mary. Mark, back on earth and teaching HS science, gets recruited to help solve the dimming of the sun with Science!
At least I think it is Mark from The Martian since the character is the same.
No telepathy, FTL Travel thankfully. Trending as a 5 star read.
