Well, hello. Movie and all that. How does it feel to hand your intellectual property over to some Hollywood execs? Do you think Damon has the emotional range to be plucky and have any sense of humor?
Sean Bean?? How are you going to make sure that his character dies, to match all of Sean Bean's other roles?
(Cathy Holt read my mind - I love Matt Damon, but Mark Watney has such a down to earth sense of humor I worry that he may not be able to express the necessary amount of playfulness).
Andy, phenomenal job with the GR win this year!! Can't guess on how many copies I have given to friends and family over the past year. I appreciate the signed copy I have for you and will be looking for more on EBAY!! Cannot wait til next November! Best!
Ridley Scott? How proud must you be Andy?? Please do a signing in or around Crawley before the fame hits and you become too inaccessible!!
I just finished this book yesterday - it was a glorious read... had me on the edge of my seat. SO IMPRESSIVE!
Sean Bean dies in EVERYTHING. Unsure which role he'll play in this film adaptation, but hopefully the screenwriter will allow his character to make it to the end :-P
I hate to say it, because he's in everything now...I honestly feel Chris Pratt would make an outstanding Watney. Im very happy Sean Bean is being cast as the role of the resupply probe. It seems like it'll be a tough acting gig, but with his ability to die so well...it'll be glorious.
Seriously? Congratulations! Along with Gravity it's good to see more of these actual science-is-the-plot sci-fi films coming out, in both books and movies. That's why I got this one. Finished it last night. Loved it. I think Damon will be great.
Wonderful. I just hope Hollywood doesn't mess it up too much. My husband doesn't read and now he can see what all of my chuckling was about.
It will be interesting to see how they make the journals come to life.
John…there is no way it will come out as boring and depressing as Gravity.
That's about 240 Sols to go for the release...... Can't wait for the release after reading the Novel..... Hope it is as thrilling as the reading experience!!
Can't wait!!! Love your book, love Matt Damon. Also a fan of Jessica Chastain and Sean Bean, so it'll be great. I'm checking IMDb, like, three times every day for the trailer, haha
So excited for this movie! I'm super stoked that it's releasing this year! Thanks for a great read, Andy!
I really loved reading your novel. I've finished reading it just now, and I cannot wait for the film adaptation. Judging by the cast of the film, The Martian sure is going to be big!
Can't stop reading, I'm in 1/3 of this book and I am speechless. This is brilliant, if a movie will be 10% as good it will be a best Sci-Fi movie since Aliens, Terminator and 2001: a space oddysey ... can't wait.
You made Mark Watney single in the book, but I'm afraid they are going to change that in the movie! They better not because even though he's fictional, I am in love with him!!! Here's to hoping that wife and son in the trailer belong to someone else!
The screen adaption was entertaining but it just didn't measure up to the book. The cast was impressive, and I thought they did a good job of the characters, as far as the script allowed. I was disappointed that Sean Bean's character, specifically the conflict between he and the director, was so weakened. I guess it was inevitable that we lost huge portions of the book in a brief screen adaption, but a lot of the best lines in the book were the little victories along the way.
