message 1: by Cat (new)

Cat Audette Holt Well, hello. Movie and all that. How does it feel to hand your intellectual property over to some Hollywood execs? Do you think Damon has the emotional range to be plucky and have any sense of humor?

message 2: by Abi (new)

Abi Demina I am so happy they chose Matt Damon to be Watney. Brilliant. Can't wait!

message 3: by Tavirider (new)

Tavirider Sean Bean?? How are you going to make sure that his character dies, to match all of Sean Bean's other roles?

message 4: by Kerry (new)

Kerry Ridley Scott is best director. He also part of many iconic 80's films. Mark Watney would approve.

message 5: by Pietro (new)

Pietro (Cathy Holt read my mind - I love Matt Damon, but Mark Watney has such a down to earth sense of humor I worry that he may not be able to express the necessary amount of playfulness).

message 6: by John (new)

John Boettcher Andy, phenomenal job with the GR win this year!! Can't guess on how many copies I have given to friends and family over the past year. I appreciate the signed copy I have for you and will be looking for more on EBAY!! Cannot wait til next November! Best!

message 7: by Icarus (new)

Icarus Akamatsu Ridley Scott? How proud must you be Andy?? Please do a signing in or around Crawley before the fame hits and you become too inaccessible!!

message 8: by Pasha (new)

Pasha SEBASTIAN STAN KATE MARA JESSICA CHASTAIN OMFG YAAAAAAS

message 9: by Jill (new)

Jill I just finished this book yesterday - it was a glorious read... had me on the edge of my seat. SO IMPRESSIVE!

message 10: by Dave (new)

Dave Sean Bean dies in EVERYTHING. Unsure which role he'll play in this film adaptation, but hopefully the screenwriter will allow his character to make it to the end :-P

message 11: by b839e6f631 (new)

b839e6f631 Sorry to disappoint you but he survives in Silent Hill... Yeah, that's right... Silent Hill.

message 12: by Dave (new)

Dave Ha! That's true Bruce. I stand corrected, for Sean Bean's sake

message 13: by John (new)

John Huntington I LOVE the book but I think Matt Damon is wrong for the part. Lets hope he proves me wrong

message 14: by Dave (new)

Dave Agree wholeheartedly, John H.

message 15: by Jane (new)

Jane I don't remember any characters dying in the book. Who is Sean Bean going to play?

message 16: by Adriana (new)

Adriana so excited about this!

message 17: by John (new)

John Myers I hate to say it, because he's in everything now...I honestly feel Chris Pratt would make an outstanding Watney. Im very happy Sean Bean is being cast as the role of the resupply probe. It seems like it'll be a tough acting gig, but with his ability to die so well...it'll be glorious.

message 18: by Dave (new)

Dave Chris Pratt +1

message 19: by John (new)

John Huntington Chris Pratt +2

message 20: by Zachary (new)

Zachary Seriously? Congratulations! Along with Gravity it's good to see more of these actual science-is-the-plot sci-fi films coming out, in both books and movies. That's why I got this one. Finished it last night. Loved it. I think Damon will be great.

message 21: by Julio (new)

Julio Raffaine Congratulations! Wonderful book and I was really waiting for a filmed version, it deserves!

message 22: by John (new)

John Huntington But unlike gravity, hopefully it wont suck. god that movie was terrible

message 23: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Wonderful. I just hope Hollywood doesn't mess it up too much. My husband doesn't read and now he can see what all of my chuckling was about.

It will be interesting to see how they make the journals come to life.

John…there is no way it will come out as boring and depressing as Gravity.

message 24: by Kerry (new)

Kerry Will need a cameo from Mathew McConaughey as misguided angry astronaut.

message 25: by Srikumar (new)

Srikumar Krishna Iyer That's about 240 Sols to go for the release...... Can't wait for the release after reading the Novel..... Hope it is as thrilling as the reading experience!!

message 26: by F.J. (new)

F.J. Akkerman Can't wait!!! Love your book, love Matt Damon. Also a fan of Jessica Chastain and Sean Bean, so it'll be great. I'm checking IMDb, like, three times every day for the trailer, haha

message 27: by Sergiu (new)

Sergiu Pobereznic Loved, loved, loved your novel. Thank you for an entertaining and clever read. Bravo!

message 28: by Gray (new)

Gray So excited for this movie! I'm super stoked that it's releasing this year! Thanks for a great read, Andy!

message 29: by Norberto (new)

Norberto I really loved reading your novel. I've finished reading it just now, and I cannot wait for the film adaptation. Judging by the cast of the film, The Martian sure is going to be big!

message 30: by Thomas (new)

Thomas Troon Now I really need a trailer. Please.

message 31: by Eric (new)

Eric Raines Oh how I love Donald Glover, such a talented guy. Can't wait for this!

message 32: by Marco (new)

Marco Maspero Oh man thanks for this book! I loved it!!!

message 33: by Gustavo (new)

Gustavo Sean Bean.. ok ok.. we know now that somebody is going to die then...

message 34: by Michał (new)

Michał Steier Can't stop reading, I'm in 1/3 of this book and I am speechless. This is brilliant, if a movie will be 10% as good it will be a best Sci-Fi movie since Aliens, Terminator and 2001: a space oddysey ... can't wait.

message 35: by Abhishek (new)

Abhishek Is "Staying Alive" gonna be the title song for the movie? :)

message 36: by Brian (new)

Brian I both look forward to and am terrified by what Hollywood will do with this book.

message 38: by D.L. (new)

D.L. Thomas I am so excited! I hope they don't screw it up...

message 39: by Michał (new)

Michał Steier Trailer seems promising.

message 40: by Steffanie (new)

Steffanie You made Mark Watney single in the book, but I'm afraid they are going to change that in the movie! They better not because even though he's fictional, I am in love with him!!! Here's to hoping that wife and son in the trailer belong to someone else!

message 41: by Kamho (new)

Kamho Both the book and the movie was totally amazing. I had a blast!

message 42: by Dania (new)

Dania Haz book much better than movie!

message 43: by Stephan (new)

Stephan Clinkerhoffen Loved the movie! Did you have much input in it?

message 44: by Peter (new)

Peter The screen adaption was entertaining but it just didn't measure up to the book. The cast was impressive, and I thought they did a good job of the characters, as far as the script allowed. I was disappointed that Sean Bean's character, specifically the conflict between he and the director, was so weakened. I guess it was inevitable that we lost huge portions of the book in a brief screen adaption, but a lot of the best lines in the book were the little victories along the way.
