I *loved* My Sister the Serial Killer. I used to laugh out loud at the Joan Hess mysteries, or the Spencer for Hire ones. Same with Stephanie Plum, but those got a little stale.

The House on the Cerulean Sea is on my reading list, too.

Cindy: Yes!! to everything you said.

I saw it in the theater, and enjoyed it. The first part moves a little slow. I thought the girl who played Johanna was great.
The theater was very clean (I avoided the bathrooms). But I was still a little uncomfortable.

Thanks Sue! That's good to hear about the show, I'll give it a try.

Fun idea! I will try it.
I started a new mystery series by Ann Cleeves, the Jimmy Perez series set in Shetland. Recommended by Dave Fish, I believe. Love it!!

Years ago I read the Joan Hess mysteries. she had two different series going. I thought they were laugh out loud funny. I also like David Sedaris's humor. I used to also laugh out loud at Robert B Parker's Spenser series. And more recently, I like the subtle humor in Elly Griffiths Ruth Galloway series. I used to love Evanovich, too, but got a little tired of her.

I loved Game of Thrones, Cindy! I like Outlander, too, but still watching. I agree with you on the books. Too many pages for me. I am curious what I'll think of Holly, I have a very precise sense of her in my imagination.
I just discovered another show that I am watching is based on a series of books. Heartland, based on the series of the same name by Lauren Brooke. Set in Alberta, Canada, story of a horse ranch family. Very tame, "feel good" kind of show with nice scenery and horses. Wholesome.

I do plan to watch The Outsider, I really enjoyed the book.

I probably read Pale Horse many years ago, but don't recall it. I am reading the first Longmire, but it's told in the first person, and that voice is not matching up with my perception of the TV Longmire. But I am going to finish it, because overall I am enjoying it.

I also watched Pale Horse on Amazon Prime, based on the Agatha Christie novel. it's 2 episodes. I liked that a lot, but am a little confused about what happened when, so would like to watch it again.

Yes, I just finished bingeing Longmire, all 6 seasons. It is available on Netflix, and based on the Craig Johnson western/mystery series. Present day, Wyoming, interactions with the nearby reservations. Not my normal type of series, but I really enjoyed it. It had been canceled, and then Netflix resurrected it and did the last 3 seasons (an improvement). I miss the characters, and was sorry to see it end.

Hi! I just remembered this group. Anyone read anything good lately?
I am reading the Ruth Galloway series by Elly Griffiths. Ruth is an archeologist who often digs up a murdered body. Nice sense of place, good characters. Interesting relationship with the local detective.
Also reading American Dirt, because I want to see what the big deal is. Halfway through, and it makes me a little anxious. So back to Ruth Galloway for a bit. This appears to be a time when I need escape reading.

Just to read more! Less Facebook gazing, more reading from my "Want to read" list. 4 days in, 2 books done.

Probably my all time favorites for creepy factor would be early Stephen King: The Shining, Salem's Lot, and Pet Sematary. More recently, Joe Hill's Heart-shaped Box was a good ghost story. I found it hard to find well-written horror, and prefer subtlety and ghosts and do not like gore and slashers. I also liked Hell House, and would love other suggestions. I stopped reading horror years ago because of the lack of quality.

All time favorite: Catcher in the Rye. I also enjoyed A Secret History. I read "The Magicians" by Level Grossman, which had been suggested for readers going through Harry Potter withdrawal. It was a whole lot darker, and not as engaging, but I liked it.

"Until You're Mine," by Samantha Hayes. Loved it! Can't say more because I don't want to do a spoiler. Great suspense.
Liane Moriarty's "The Husband's Secret" and "Big Little Lies" are pretty good suspense, but I would have liked them a little darker, and I know many have read them already.
"Before I Go To Sleep" by S.J. Watson remains one of my favorites. Wife has amnesia, which is reset every time she falls asleep.
I second the Kubica books, love them.
I'm also enjoying "The Woman in Cabin 10" by Ruth Ware, which will be released in July (I have an uncorrected proof). Kind of an unsettling page turner.

I love Jane Austen! Also loved The Invention of Wings. Thanks for suggesting.

If you like to laugh, and a little profanity doesn't bother you, I recently read "Furiously Happy" by Jenny Lawson. Non-fiction, stories from her life. Nicely written, and she's hilarious. She also suffers from various illnesses, both physical and mental, and she's very frank about the effects on her life. Anyway, I thought it was a great book.
