[close] I enjoyed Jorg's character a lot in Prince of Thorns, especially because of Mark Lawrence's writing style. I actually found him more likable because of the tone and style of the book. Interesting! Did you feel the same way?

[close] This book uses magic a ton, which you might like. I've read a lot of criticism of it from people who loved Jim Butcher's Dresden series (I haven't read it), but otherwise it's a really well loved book.

[close] This book mostly serves to develop characters, relationships, and the fantasy world for the rest of the series.

[close] Our first read is epic fantasy, and The Eye of the World was the first epic fantasy I ever tried to read last year. I had to stop reading it at the time because I had exactly the wrong expectations. Now that I understand epic fantasy better, I'm enjoying it a lot more, but this video explains why I couldn't get into it at first.

[close] "Magic figures strongly in high fantasy, but it is not used willy-nilly. It is a commodity that must be used wisely to be effective." The Way of Kings fits perfectly into this description of high fantasy, and yet realism also features strongly in this book. See what I mean in my video.

[close] When I first started reading this book I had suspicions about when it was published because of a very distinctive writing style. Did you pick up on the same thing?

[close] There's a lot to this book, but my favorite bits are the parts that relate to childhood. I can't help it - very original!

[close] I didn't care for this book about 50 pages into it, so I didn't read the whole thing, but it seems like a solid example of mundane fantasy.

[close] The Borrowers is classic juvenile fantasy that's the first in a series and was made into a movie. I really enjoyed reading this book - such great break from all the heavy stuff!
