2020 Reboot? (8 new)
Dec 29, 2019 03:30PM

179134 Not a lot of interest in the partner idea. I may try something a friend of mine is doing in an online group. He’s picking a reading theme for the month - so for January, the theme is Books with One Word Titles.

While we can keep this group and continue to use the bookshelves to record what we read, I will probably issue the theme via the mclslist. I’m thinking maybe we can do an informal monthly meet-up for those interested where I can continue to hand out giftcards through a drawing among those who attend.

Amy, that’s a great idea. Pick a title and a date for a meet-up and post it out to the MCLSlist. I bet there will be interest. If you need some start-up $$ for anything, I can provide some support.

179134 Hi Everyone,

Anyone up for trying to reboot this reading challenge? What do you think about a program where you get matched with a partner who recommends a new book for you each month? I’ve also had some feedback that some people would like to gather occasionally for coffee and to talk about books.

Any other ideas?

Thanks.

179134 Hi Everyone,

I’ve only had one READO completed this month, so Kristin Spath (Central Communications) wins that drawing. Going forward, I think I’m going to change up the drawing process. Let’s go back to adding your completed books to the Goodreads group and I’ll draw form there. When you complete a READO board, submit it and I’ll collect them throughout the year. In December, I’ll do a few drawings just from the READO boards.

So, start logging your completed titles in Goodreads again!

Thanks.

Have fun!

179134 Sure. There are really no hard & fast rules here. Everyone who tells me they’ve completed a “READO” gets their name put in for the monthly drawing, so everyone has a chance. The whole purpose of these challenges is to get people to read things they normally wouldn’t.

179134 Okay, I succumbed to the “cheese” and started creating some READO boards. Here’s how I thought we could work this thing.

I’ll post a few different topical boards (e.g. Experiences, World Lit, Mysteries & Suspense, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Graphic Novels, etc.) and you can choose which board to work on.

Once you get a READO (any line vertically, horizontally, or diagonally, or 4 corners) you let me know by sending me an email, posting here on GoodReads, or sending me your completed board. I’ll collect names throughout the month and draw for the Amazon gift card as usual.

I’ll also send the boards out to the MCLSList so perhaps we can get more people to read along this year. I’ll release the first couple of boards sometime this week.

Any questions?

Thanks.

179134 Alison,
Did you get the message through your libraryweb.org account with the link to redeem the gift card?

179134 How do you feel about a BINGO Board challenge? I started playing around with this a couple days ago and can post an example soon.

I was thinking there could be several cards, each with a different theme - World Literature, Classics, Top 25 in MCLS, etc.

Would it be really cheesy to rename it READO?

179134 Hi Everyone,

How do you all feel about continuing in 2019 with a new challenge? I’ve noticed our participation has slowly dropped, so maybe it’s time for something new. What do you all think?
