186367 Lol I know how that is Madison
186367 Sorry guys I just realized that I didn't set up the individual threads to discuss this book. I will do it as soon as I get home.
186367 Madison, let me know if you would like an e-book version of it. I can email it to you. I have to check the format. It's either epub or mobi. I just can't remember which one right now.
186367 I am on Chapter 3 and even though we haven't learned the main character's name yet, I have no idea what is wrong with her. I wonder if she has killed or hurt someone on accident.

186367 Welcome to the group Laura; we're glad to have you. I have only read the first book in the Harry Potter series, even though I own all of them. The only Neil Gaiman book I have read is Anansi Boys and the only Terry Pratchett book I've read is the first book in the discworld series. I have never read a book by Patrick Rothfuss.

186367 In the Woods by Tana French is our second May BOTM. Here is the general discussion of the book, i.e. thoughts before and after reading the book, writing style, narration, etc.

Summary:

A gorgeously written novel that marks the debut of an astonishing new voice in psychological suspense.

As dusk approaches a small Dublin suburb in the summer of 1984, mothers begin to call their children home. But on this warm evening, three children do not return from the dark and silent woods. When the police arrive, they find only one of the children. He is gripping a tree trunk in terror, wearing blood-filled sneakers and unable to recall a single detail of the previous hours.

Twenty years later, the found boy, Rob Ryan, is a detective on the Dublin Murder Squad and keeps his past a secret. But when a 12-year-old girl is found murdered in the same woods, he and Detective Cassie Maddox (his partner and closest friend) find themselves investigating a case chillingly similar to the previous unsolved mystery. Now, with only snippets of long-buried memories to guide him, Ryan has the chance to uncover both the mystery of the case before him and that of his own shadowy past.

186367 Hey guys! June will host our second Book of the Month. Now we just need to nominate books to be voted on.

Rules:

1. You can only nominate 1 book or second 1 book, but not both.

2. The book must be 1st in the series (this rule will vary once we have more group reads)

Example: Both of May's BOTMs are first in a series, so you could nominate the second book in the series.

3. The top 5 books with the most votes will be added to the poll (if less than 5, all books will be added to the voting poll).

Note: Books can be from any genre

June's BOTM nominations will be open from April 25th to May 9th @ 11:59 pm EST. On May 10th, the voting poll will be open to choose our BOTM. The voting poll will close on May 22nd @ 11:59 pm.
186367 Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi is one of our May BOTMs. Here we will discuss our general ideas of the book before we read it or your thoughts if you have already read the book. I will make additional discussions for the book broken up by chapters, that way people will not have to worry too much about spoilers.

Summary:

I have a curse
I have a gift

I am a monster
I'm more than human

My touch is lethal
My touch is power

I am their weapon
I will fight back

Juliette hasn’t touched anyone in exactly 264 days.

The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal. As long as she doesn’t hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don’t fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war – and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she’s exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.
