You can and you can. Sorry she left Goodreads. Such a pain to have partners who don't pull their weight. (I'm looking at me and our VtV. I suck!)

I'll set you up with a new thread now and tomorrow I'll get you the new WH13 tasks.

213642 I'm not going to join in on this one. I never did read any of my Oct books and I really wanted to! :/ I even had them on my Dewey's TBR and did I read them? Of course not.

It's NaNo, and I'm gearing up for it - so even less time to read! But I'm looking forward to, once again, trying something new!
213642 I so didn't think there was anyone left that hadn't watched it / known of it. It was quite good. Still looking for these kinds of books. Had some anime and other shows suggested to me elsewhere, but still no books. I seem to be the only one of people I know who read this kind of genre before Squid Game.

213642 Well, you can use any books I've ever recommended as books recommended by authors. LOL. :D

Some big books were started off as NaNo projects, like The Night Circus, although she likes to point out that it was just a first draft - like I guess people think NaNo stuff is just ready to go and polished at the end of Nov. Nope. Here's a list of more. Now that I think about it - my books are NaNo books too. Gearing up for NaNo this year, with a change from my norm.

213642 If you aren't hiding under a rock, then you know of Squid Game.

I've always enjoyed the gaming horror survival type books. Of course there are the big ones like Battle Royale, Hunger Games, and Maze Runner. But what about the less known ones? That's what I'm searching for. I've read plenty over the years, with varying degrees of enjoyment from loving to hating them. What have you read that is in this genre?

I don't mean murder mystery such as And Then There Were None (which was great) in which people are killed off one by one, but an actual game of some sort being played in which it's a kill or be killed type trope. There's also plenty that are with games - which I also love - but not deadly.

Here's what I've read and enjoyed. Favorites are marked with *. I didn't include ones I didn't like. If you want the list of ones that I hated or were meh (because others may like them) let me know and I'll add them too.

Give me your Squid Game-esque book recs! PLEASE! I really want to read something like it. Also, who's watching? No spoilers, for those who haven't yet. We have one episode left.

Actual Survival / playing deadly games:

**** Whodunnit? Murder in Mystery Manor
* New Year Island
* 24/7
* Tag, You're Dead

Not games, but similar deadly survival feel:

* Seed
* Vanquished
* Nil
The Wicked We Have Done
Killer Game
Paradise Club
The Testing

213642 Yeah, I could just leave my shelf the same, since I've hardly touched books other than audiobooks at night. :/

213642 Sorry for the delay, ladies, it's been a weird time around here. Hubby just changed jobs after 9.5 years at the same one. His first day was yesterday and he was oddly nervous. He likes it though. Then I've been working on this dang book trying to get it ready since it's been nearly 2 years in the making. With working on the first two and crap happening this year, it just hasn't gotten done.

Anyways, I apologize for the delay. Here's my picks.

CARMEN

From Best Friend to Husband (Harvest Ranch Romance #1) by Lucy McConnell - awww, love the title!
Gentleman Nine by Penelope Ward
Vampires, Bones and Treacle Scones (Liss MacCrimmon Mysteries, #7) by Kaitlyn Dunnett

JENNY

Generation Manifestation by Steven Bereznai
The Glitter End by Vivian Conroy - such a cute cover!
Ask No Questions by Claire Allan

PLETHORA

The Glass Ocean by Beatriz Williams - I'm not a huge history fan but something about this one intrigues me
The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling
Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr

213642 I got to one of my four last month - The Block.

I didn't like it AS much as the first. Both have some repetitive things in it (they're stuck doing the same thing over and over) but it was another thing that was boring for me in this one. Good, but not great. 4 stars.

213642 Hey Carmen - I'm gonna let the spreadsheet guru (aka Angie) take a look for you - she'll know what it is faster than me. We've had bad weather today so she may have had power/internet issues as she hasn't been around. I'm sure she'll look as soon as she's able. If not, I'll check it out tomorrow, see if I can figure it out.

Oh, no worries! I know I actually got on the ball quicker than usual. LOL!

213642 I'm sorry I haven't been around. We've had some crazy stuff happening here. I know Angie's busy with her trip too, so Jenny & Plethora, you two pick for each other, and hopefully Angie & I will both be back to normal normal-ish for next month.

Jenny, my picks for you, sorry so tardy -

Elevator Pitch by Linwood Barclay - this book was great, an author I enjoy
Mirrorland by Carole Johnstone - I added this for this month too and it looks interesting. Would love to know what you think if you get to it before I do.
