Thanks for the input. I do want to read the first one.

Hi Diane. We've been a bit slow. Feel free to stir things up :)

Hi Clare, I check when I see new posts but I'm not able to help on NF. Anyone else? Laura?
Laura wrote: "I have already added to my TBR, thank you so much!!"I'm almost done. Very very good. Now to see if we can get out of Kabul in one piece...

Any one read her books? I heard mention over at HFO and I've got two out from the library now. Her stories are mainly focused in India or other Eastern parts. I started Beyond all Frontiers last night and so far so good, similar political setting to The Far Pavilions. I also have Forget the Glory which starts in India but moves to the Crimean.

Hi Dottie and welcome. Jump in whereever you like. It's been quiet around here except for our travel nattering.

I just received Virginie's post card today and a book mark along with it. Woohoo! Thanks very much.

I live rather close to the SeaTac airport, about 5-10 miles away. I am so used to them I don't even "hear" them anymore. Same as the trains, although thankfully I'm far enough away it's just a pleasant noise.

Chrissie, no problem on the thread. There's not enough of us here for it to matter anyway :p
Have you all realized that this volcano issue is going to impact more than just air travel? If planes can't get out of the UK then neither can the Royal Mail with our books dangit. If I have to wait any longer for the latest Chadwick I am going to be sooooooooo mad.

I've received Chrissie's card, thank you. I must get off my behind and fill out my cards and get them sent off. Can't seem to get my nose out of a book and do it :)
PS, someone's going to get a card with an airial (sp?) view of The Ballard Locks and a story about how dumb that rowing to the beach scene really is geographically. Who will it be?

Welcome back ladies, and Virginie I loved your pics. I have my postcards but I must sit down and write them out and address them.

Have a safe and happy trip Virginie.
Virginie wrote: "Wonderful, Misfit it would be lovely to have you in !!!!"OK, as long as I don't have to go to downtown Seattle to the tourist traps to find a postcard :)
Laura wrote: "and then Misfit will be the fifth mosquetaire, right?"What am I being volunteered for? I've no trips planned in the immediate future :)

One thing I like about MM Kaye is that she always sends home the message through her stories is that East and West are inherently different cultures and will never see eye to eye. We should stop trying to change what cannot be changed - you'll really see that in Tradewinds when the heroine learns that lesson.
Shadow of the Moon takes a while to get moving but those last 100 or so pages. Yowza!

As I said when I introduced myself to the group :
"The Rains came" Louis ..."You mention any period you want. We want to know them all :)

Laura, gorgeous shot.
Virginie, I'd also recommend Zemindar by Valerie Fitzgerald if you can get your hands on it. A great companion book to Shadow of the Moon. Same period, but Zem. is set inside the Lucknow Residency and SOTM outside.

Oh I just love MM Kaye. Not set in India but her Tradewinds is just awesome.
