3113 Ethics/ethical...I don't think anyone can put those words in the same paragraph with politics; let alone assert that they must be hand and hand.

3113 I disagree with you both, empathy has no place when debating issues of policy.

3113 It is fine for the individual to feel their way through life. It is not proper for an elected leader to do it. Facts, not feelings are needed when planning tthe future.

3113 Glad to hear things are shaping up Charissa...

Annie is ahead of schedule with Nano this year. Honestly I don't know where she fines the time. She has been uber busy networking in the industry and engaged in talks with several publishers for her "more complete" works. She has a few interviews posted on her website/blog. Other then that, Nicks life is slow and boring. I hope you have kept up your daily word count; books don't write themselves you know.

If you are still seriously trying to gain access to the industry I suggest going to these book conventions. Annie has gained more headway attending these then she has with a lit agent.

3113 Sorry to hear this news, Charissa. Hope you are coping well. Since I am not good at these sort of things, think of something you would like to hear and that's what I want to say.

3113 I understand there is a difference between an organization and a nation, Donna. I however do not think it is out of the range of probability that a dictator (who displays no signs of respect for human life) with failing health or his brainwashed crazy son are not concerned with the survival of the North Korean nation or staying in power.

In my last post I said I wasn't pushing for military action but after some thought maybe some surgical air strikes are in order. However that would probably result in hostile action on the DMZ and I don't think that would be beneficial to the 26K American troops we have there or the South Koreans for that matter. Long story short I don't know what action to take, I would settle for a statement saying they are on top of it instead of the "feh whatever" opinion they seem to have about the situation.

What good is there in finding them after they park a boat with a nuclear device in the port/bay of San Francisco? I have no love for anything in California but that doesn't mean I want to leave them dangling in the wind exposed to a very real and potentially devastating threat. A little concern or even a statement of confidence that things are being watched would suffice, I don't need to know details other then they have a handle on it.
Richard wrote: "Let's occupy their country and find out. It worked really well the last time."

Didn't say anything about military action Richard. Simply a statement of concern over the pentagons lack of interest. Again I submit that it is possible they are just playing it down to calm nerves but after listening to the whole statement that is a hard pill to swallow. If you are one that prescribes to the belief that 9/11 could have been avoided if only we acted on the available intelligence, then I should not be wrong in wondering why this isn't being taken more seriously by the DOD.

Charissa wrote: "Don't you think they are just posturing, as usual?"

Is it worth the risk when dealing with a nuclear capable nation?

3113 Does anyone have any thoughts about the Pentagon's spokesmen response to North Korea's threat to "wipe the US off the map"?

I understand that Nk is improvised and hanging on by a thread but they DO have nuclear weapons. I am not saying they could succeed in wiping the floor with us, but they could cause a lot of heart ache for a lot of people. It isn't as if it would be hard to smuggle a warhead or two into the US. What with our porous boarders and all. But maybe it was just a bone thrown to the media. but I don't think so. After hearing the whole statement it doesn't appear they (Department of Defense) are taking it seriously.

To me and my ability to read people I think the leadership in NK is not only chemically un-balanced but desperate; that is a dangerous mix if you ask me.

3113 yes ma'am.

3113 Honestly: I stopped. I used to have thoughts of improving the future. The ageless adage: leave it better then you received it-but I don't believe it anymore. I look around and I see people doing everything they can to make life miserable for themselves and everyone around them. I know that sounds funny coming from me (for anyone familiar with me but there you have it.) I see people engaging in self-destructive activities and complain and holler that nobody is there to pick them up.

I just really don't care anymore. I have spent the better part of the last few years pulling back and isolating myself from the world at large. I can deal with it in small doses via the internet, just don't knock on my door and expect a warm welcome.

As for the Newspapers... if i wanted 18 hour old (two or three days old in Alaska papers)news it is fine. Life is too fast for news papers these days. I don't buy into the lost revenue because of online access. there are advertisements on those pages you read everyday but Sunday, and NYtimes is getting paid because of you everyday but Sunday. if they are not making enough to maintain their staff then they need to increase the cost to advertise on their site.

Like everything else in life poor management is the knife in the back of the papers, not the internet.

3113 I thought you were referring to Lamb: The gospel according to biff; Christ childhood friend...

I kept asking myself WTF does that have to do with the thread... after re-reading it I feel stupid... but in a funny way.

3113 I don't know if it was published yet, But I just finished: Breathers a zombie's lament.

It was pretty good and funny; if you never considered you stench as an attribute to be exploited to impress a girl you probably wouldn't understand.
3113 Pretty much, Debbie, But I guess I am asking how wide of scope is instinct/genetic memory. What determines what becomes a I/GM? Survival instincts are not universal, the native populations in Australia were cautious and thus very knowledgeable of insects. why because most of them will kill you if bitten. I am not saying they were born with extensive knowledge of insects, I am just saying they were born with the knowledge that it was important to pay attention to THIS bug. Almost like a wife trying to tell her husband whats bothering her without actually saying what is bothering her. Personally I think the genetic memory thing works better then the wife's attempts. :D
3113 I think genetic memory is plausible because through out history we see reoccurring thoughts springing up in different parts of the world at the same time...

A man see's an enemy; man picks up large blunt stick to pummel the threat. Why? he doesn't have an understanding of physics, he doesn't know that the sticks mass will increase the damage of his strike.[lame example I know but...:]

I think genetic memory is the culprit. Survival sticks in our brains; things related to survival and self preservation get imprinted into our genetic code so they are passed on to our offspring... So if person (a) lives on an island that has no predators then their gene line will not have the trait's related to predator evasion and counter attack. where as person (b) who lives on a large land mass with all sorts of predators. Their genes tell them to duck hide, be quiet. Grab that stick.

If genome (a) were to decide to build a boat and float to the home of genome (b) genome (a) would have to learn and learn fast to hide or arm it self. once this is known it is automatically imprinted and thus passed on to offspring; either by the newly imprinted genome (a) or from the parent of genome (b).

Again I have nothing to back this up, just brain storming.
3113 I dunno debbie, that is why I threw it out there, I never really thought about it in any depth, so I was fishing for ideas thoughts and perspective about it.
3113 after my much needed sleep I believe I was right the second time, electricity doesn't have mass, it is a force[charge:] so in itself it doesn't have mass.

The two grams thing struck an interest with me because well, everything must occupy something right? so if you have a soul/consciousness, when you die there should be a change. (if there is an after life, or some other demention that we slip into).

I am leaning toward the brain makes little sparks; we think/feel/memorize/prioritize and follow through with programed responses. To each and all their ideas seem to fit their "personality" but really it is just their life experiences have formed certain unique responses to certain situations.

I know a drab way of looking at it but it seems plausible to me. So I'll throw another fishing line out; what are your thoughts on genetic memory?
3113 Disreguard my last I should just delete it... electricity is a force, not plasma... I was laying in bed trying to sleep but it was nagging the hell out of me keeping me awake.

So I went back in time via my metaphysical traversing mechanism and came to the conclusion that electricity is a force not mass... it has no weight, the particles charged by it do... I think I might be making this all up... I'm going to bed enough of this.
3113 I am up way past my bedtime, but has anyone ever heard of the loss of two grams of weight upon death? I have no idea how this was tested (if it ever really was tested) But this thread made me think of it...

It may simply be the electrical charge of the body dissipating when life function ceases; at any rate I thought I would throw it out there to see what fish I pull in.

Does electricity have a weight? and is it plasma?
3113 Sorry to disappoint, I will try to think more to your liking on our next disagreement ;)
3113 Oh and I didn't know I was apart of a love Regan cabala.
