33903 I've been through many books this year already! I've seen to decided this year that if it doesn't peak my interest to DNF it straight away!!
Here are my results so far

4 stars: Afterworlds (Afterworlds #1) by Scott Westerfeld Panic by Lauren Oliver Snow Like Ashes (Snow Like Ashes, #1) by Sara Raasch

3 stars: Three Sisters, Three Queens (The Plantagenet and Tudor Novels, #8) by Philippa Gregory

DNF: Insanity by Susan Vaught Above by Leah Bobet Love on the Run (Nola O'Grady, #4) by Katharine Kerr

Currently Reading: Hellhole (Hellhole, #1) by Brian Herbert might end up DNFing this book as well, it's not bad just not overly interesting.

33903 re-read Masques (Sianim, #1 / Aralorn, #1) by Patricia Briggs Wolfsbane (Sianim, #4 / Aralorn, #2) by Patricia Briggs both were really good. I also read Nevernight (The Nevernight Chronicle, #1) by Jay Kristoff , it was a bit eh at the beginning... interesting but also confusing, a few chapters in and I was loving it. Devoured the thing as fast as i could.

Now I've started re-reading Steal the Dragon (Sianim, #2) by Patricia Briggs today, so far rather enjoying it. Looking forward to reading When Demons Walk (Sianim, #3) by Patricia Briggs next.

33903 Totally forgot I was listening to Hex and the City (Nightside, #4) by Simon R. Green . Instead I started listening to The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black which was surprisingly good, I was bummed to find out it was a stand alone, I'd love more books with these characters. The narrator did a wonderful job.

I also finished Heart of Steel (Iron Seas, #2) by Meljean Brook IMO better than the first, but the third one looks a little cringy - based off the sample I read, so I'm going to put it off for a while.
And read Truthwitch (The Witchlands, #1) by Susan Dennard not as good as I had hoped but not bad at all, I'll def be reading book 2. Love the characters, and I loved how the two MC's were both females and besties <3

So now I'll either go back to Nightside or When Demons Walk (Sianim, #3) by Patricia Briggs except it's been a while so I wouldn't mind re-reading the series except I don't appear to have Steal the Dragon which is annoying.

33903 Finished Opposition (Lux, #5) by Jennifer L. Armentrout I ended up really enjoying it!! I was a bit meh about it at the beginning but by the end I didn't want it to finish. Now I have a terrible book hangover, so sad the series has finished :(

Also listening to Hex and the City (Nightside, #4) by Simon R. Green while I'm at the gym. Not sure how much I took in the other night though, was mainly focused on not dying!! lol.

33903 Smashed through Nightingale's Lament (Nightside, #3) by Simon R. Green Red Queen (Red Queen, #1) by Victoria Aveyard both were really good.

Nightingale's Lament was entertaining as hell and rather outlandish but I enjoyed it much more because of it. 3/4 stars - unsure which one I'm leaning more towards.

Red Queen was devious which made it a fun read, sure there was some issues but overall I had a good time. 4 stars.

33903 Been ages since my last update so I have a few

Re-Read:
Obsidian (Lux, #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout Onyx (Lux, #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout Opal (Lux, #3) by Jennifer L. Armentrout Frost Burned (Mercy Thompson, #7) by Patricia Briggs All of them were brilliant as the first time I read them.

Also read:
Shadows (Lux, #0.5) by Jennifer L. Armentrout Oblivion (Lux, #1.5) by Jennifer L. Armentrout I'll admit to not being as happy with the short stories, Daemon mainly focused on ass and legs.
Vigil by Angela Slatter I wasn't the books biggest fan, but it was fun reading about my current place of residence.
Shifting Shadows Stories from the World of Mercy Thompson (Mercy Thompson #0.1, #0.6, #0.8, #1.5, #4.5, #5.5, #7.4) by Patricia Briggs was really good, enjoyed reading from different perspectives.
The Girl With No Name by Diney Costeloe LOVED!!!
Night Broken (Mercy Thompson, #8) by Patricia Briggs Fire Touched (Mercy Thompson, #9) by Patricia Briggs Both were wonderful, and Night Broken wasn't as cringy as i had been expecting based off reviews which was nice.

Listened to:
Agents of Light and Darkness (Nightside, #2) by Simon R. Green was brilliant. Author and Narrator did a fantastic job!

DNF:
Ghost Shadow (Bone Island Trilogy, #1) by Heather Graham painfully choppy and awkward dialog.
An Accidental Soldier by John Charalambous boring.

currently reading:
Origin (Lux, #4) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

33903 finished Storm Glass (Glass, #1) by Maria V. Snyder Six of Crows (Six of Crows, #1) by Leigh Bardugo .

Storm Glass was a bit disappointing compared to the main series, the characters were just blah. But I liked it enough to try and the next and hope for better things.

Six of Crows was amazing! I was a little apprehensive because I'm not the biggest fan of Leigh's other series, The Grisha. But I absolutely love how she wrote this one, the characters were brilliant, the politics corrupt and evil, just the way I like them and the world filled with all kinds of beliefs, cultures and other interesting tidbits. Really a fantastic start to a new series, can't wait to get my mitts on book 2!!

Starting The Iron Duke (Iron Seas, #1) by Meljean Brook , I didn't re-read the blurb before I dumped myself into this world and found myself utterly confused. But about 15 pages in and I think I'm starting to get it......

33903 Started reading Six of Crows (Six of Crows, #1) by Leigh Bardugo so far quite good.

33903 Finished The Veil (Devil's Isle, #1) by Chloe Neill Rot & Ruin (Rot & Ruin, #1) by Jonathan Maberry .

I ended up rating both 3 stars for different reasons. Rot and Ruin was good, well written, i like the story, and for the most part the characters (though I took a while to warm up to Benny) I liked that even though Benny was the MC he was by far the most badass or interesting. It's nice to see all the action from an out side point of view. So why only 3 stars? simple, the narrator could have done a better job. I found his emphasis on the characters emotions and actions to be bland and boring. Otherwise it was enjoyable to listen to - but I will be reading the next book instead.

The Veil had all the potential. Great set up, wonderful location, fascinating premise, but the characters to me were very.....been there, done that. I should have loved them, but they felt like the same cut out copies of a billion other characters. It was close, like i said i should have like them, but there was just something missing that held them back from being excellent characters that i could love. which is unfortunate. Also there was all this crazy going on at the end, then they drop this personal bomb on our heads which i thought was ridiculous, maybe should have waited for the next book? or done it earlier? either way it completely pulled me out of the story, a very wtf moment. still an enjoyable enough read, don't think I'll be reading The Sight though.

33903 started listening to Rot & Ruin (Rot & Ruin, #1) by Jonathan Maberry . The voices are sometimes hard to tell apart, but enjoying none-the less.

Will do!
I really enjoyed her other series as well, though I think I only made it to about book 6, I'll have to pick it back up again one day.

33903 started The Veil (Devil's Isle, #1) by Chloe Neill I like the bases of the book so far (magic and paranormal have torn through the veil separating the two worlds which exploded into a massive war) and I love where the book is set - New Orleans. But I'm a little iffy on the characters, I'm only a few pages in so I hope they'll grow on me.
Jul 27, 2016 06:43PM

33903 Stayed up till almost 3am finishing In the Skin of a Monster by Kathryn Barker . What a great book!! unsure what I'll be rating the book somewhere around 4-5 stars I imagine.
Jul 27, 2016 06:07AM

33903 So I ended up DNFing Touch by Mark Sennen about midway through, it was making me feel queasy and I kept avoiding it, I was super keen to see the bad guys get caught, but not enough to read the rest. Plus I have a giant pile of books from the library I need to get through anyways.

Still listening to Something from the Nightside (Nightside, #1) by Simon R. Green and really enjoying it. I believe I'm about midway through atm (they're at a 60's ghost cafe).

Also started In the Skin of a Monster by Kathryn Barker nothing like I expected at all, and I'm loving every moment of it!! I did find the second chapter to be very confusing but after I understood the paranormal element I devoured the book - ended up staying up till 3 am! then I forced myself to put the book down. Looking forward to reading the last half!!
