Review:
I was excited for this book. I really enjoyed the first one and was looking forward to seeing where the plot went next. I won't say much about the plot, because most of it hinges on a major thing that happens in the end of the first book that is a big spoiler.
I had some issues with the first book and most of them did not bother me as much this time, but I do wish this was not YA. I also felt the book was slow at a few parts and could probably cut out about 50-100 pages. Or maybe I just don't like reading long books anymore.
There's not a third book announced yet, but the book ends with not a cliffhanger, but there is definitely more story. I think this book sold well so hopefully the third will be on its way shortly and I already look forward to reading it.
Quick edit to call out this cover! I love it. So so much.

Review:
The Diviners has been sitting on my shelf for a while and I’m happy I finally got to it. The book is set in the 1920s and features a fairly large cast, but the main character is definitely Evie who has the ability to read peoples’s secrets from an object of theirs. She reveals a particularly damning one while showing off at party.
Her parents ship her off to stay with her uncle in Manhattan at his museum of curious oddities and meets a cast of young people who the narrator learns have a host of abilities but most of them are unknown to each other.
Around the time of her arrival, a serial killer returns from the dead and Evie and her friends are drawn to help stop him.
Overall a good book but felt long and maybe too much time was spent setting up future plot lines rather than those in this book. But I am intrigued enough to continue. Also this was not a fun book to read right before bed. The ghost character was really creepy.

Off to look for a ghost book 😄"
Yes we need to finish each shelf to win. Here’s how it looks for winning shelves:
The winning shelves are:
Autumn for team 10
Equinox for teams 1, 3, and 6
Horror for teams 9 and 11
Mystery/Thriller for teams 4, 6, 13, and 14
October for team 4
Paranormal hunter/investigator for teams 1, 2, 7, 8, and 13
Pumpkin for team 7
Urban Fantasy for team 8
Non winning:
Reaper/Harvestor
Werewolves
So we have two paths to win. Let’s get through our ghoul books, I still need to pick one, and have equinox and mystery/thriller chosen.

I’ll post links later. Looks like it is still not a winning shelf

Review:
Ilona Andrews continues to be one of my favorite authors. I was excited when I heard they were going back to their Kinsmen universe which is about future humans spread out through the universe for which some populations genetically engineered them and their descendants to access various abilities. Each book is a standalone and a take on a popular trope. This one is, as can be guessed from the title, Fated Mates.
The Adler and the Baena families share a combat ability to create a weapon or shield at will. The families happened to have settled in the same region generations ago and have waged wars off and on, but have not had one currently.
Then one day Ramona Adler walks into the Baena company headquarters for a meeting and reveals to Matias Baena that their respective spouses not only ran off with each other, but stole important research from their companies. The two have never interacted but agree to team up to get back their research.
Overall, a very fun book. I love this world and I do hope we get more, though I also enjoy all of their worlds. So as long as they keep writing I am happy.
