41948 We do most of our discussions/voting on the forum. You can see a list of the themes we have done (and what has won) here:

We took a little break from the themes, but I am going to start them again with the next round of nominations.

41948 A couple of us on the forum are reading The Dying Earth in memorial of Jack Vance. If anyone would like to join our discussions, we'd love to hear from more people:

41948 Welcome!
The Name of the Wind is a great choice. I'll add

Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb
Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch
Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson
Riyria Revelations by Michael J Sullivan

For SciFi, I really haven't read a ton. Just finished Feersum Enjinn by Iain M. Banks and will certainly read more of his work. Also enjoyed:
Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
Old Man'sWar by John Scalzi
Altered Carbon by a by Richard K. Morgan

41948 OK .... I have looked at this a number of times, and am just stumped. I have found a number of words within in it, but havent been able to come up with a title

Some of the many, many words I have found:
beast
master
player
myth
glass
game
mage
message
amber
thermal
shame

I could go on an on. Lots of words, but I'm not coming up with a title :(

41948 I will be opening nominations for our Fantasy book club on the forum next week. The theme will be Portal Fantasies! There should be some good choices this time, so start thinking what you might like to nominate. :)

Nominations this round will be for our August book.

September will be open nominations (no theme, anything fantasy qualifies).

October will be Dark Fantasy. But we may need to get a bit of a discussion/definition going on what to expect for that.

41948 OK, I've decided to ask. This is one letter off from being able to make Consider Phlebas. But there is a U instead of an A (CONSIDER PHLEBUS?). Any chance that's a mistake? :)I haven't been able to find anything else yet.

I wont make a new one until I know if this guess is correct or not. :)

41948 Mistborn was quick too. I think I read it quicker than Low Town, but not 100% sure.

41948 can I ask what turns you off The Night Circus? Have to admit it is different, but I also really enjoyed it way more than I expected. Really was a great story. Kept me really curious through out, anxious to figure out what was going on/would happen.
Mar 17, 2013 04:32AM

41948 Personally, I'd pick Abercrombie. :)

Low Town/Straight Razor Cure is good though. I haven't read Feed or Kraken, but of the ones I have read, I'd probably order them First Law, Mistborn, Low Town, Nights of Villjamur. But could depend on what your in the mood for. Dark/gritty - Abercrombie, lots of magic - Mistborn.

NoV is the only one I never recommend. I know other people love it, but found it frustratingly boring at times. As soon as I would get interested, it would change POV to something I was not interested in. Frustrating. And boring. The concept was cool though. And some really like it ...I found it ... meh.
Mar 10, 2013 05:31PM

41948 Ha! Good question :) Since you signed up for all 24, I think it's fair to grant you a pass. There's still time for the vote to change too. :)
Mar 10, 2013 07:42AM

41948 Ahh ... didn't realize that :)
Mar 10, 2013 07:26AM

41948 Dragons? That would mean it qualifies for June, you could nominate it next month :)
Mar 10, 2013 06:19AM

41948 Nothing wrong with that. :)
