62304 Hi! Once you're finished reading The Geneva Decision by Seeley James, let's discuss it here!
May 20, 2013 12:23PM

62304 Hmmm... I think all of us have been a bit behind in keeping up with discussions... myself included. I did begin the book and found myself (pleasantly) shocked at some of the turns in the plot. And the villain! She is so incredibly hate-able! I love it!
POST GENRE? (1 new)

62304 Hi, Dianne, and congratulations. I think genres can be difficult to pinpoint, especially with so many great cross-genre books out there. Sometimes a book definitely fits a genre, but I'd say more often lately I've been seeing books that span the genres.

62304 After you've read An Eternity of Roses by Natalie G. Owens, let's discuss it here!

62304 Thanks, for the nominations, everyone! We've got some great books up for voting. The poll is now open, through April 2, at http://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/81....

62304 I'm nominating An Eternity of Roses by Natalie Owens. An Eternity of Roses (The Valthreans Book 1) by Natalie G. Owens

It's paranormal romance.

Book blurb: It is 1807. Adrian Segrave, Viscount Bournemouthe, and Lady Emmaline Deramore are about to wed and British Society teems with excitement at this imminent love match. But Madeleine de Brandeville, a mysterious Frenchwoman, has her lustful and ambitious sights on the groom. When she sets her cruel plan in motion, she leaves devastation in her path.

Heartbroken, Emmaline embarks on an adventure she'd never imagined having. As the world changes and chaos brews, her fate becomes linked with the Valthreans, a group of immortals who must learn to face a deadly enemy that threatens their place in the human world. But all the while, there is one thing she wants more than any other--to get back her man.

When she finally finds her prize, her worst nightmares are far from over and the toughest battle is yet to begin. Will love win the war in the end?

62304 Hi, everyone! It's time again to nominate books! If you've got in mind a book that you'd like this group to read and discuss, please leave a comment under this thread. In your comment, mention the book's title and author, as well as the genre and a link to the book on Goodreads if possible. Make certain the independently published book is available on multiple platforms (Kindle and Nook included).

We'll be reading the book with the most votes first, in April-May... and the runner up we'll read and discuss June-July.

Thanks so much! Your book nominations have broadened my reading library. :)
62304 Wow! What a read! And phew! This is one of those books that I probably wouldn't have picked up on my own, but now I'm glad that I did. I found it to be very well written, and with an original storyline. It's a book that has kept me thinking about it, even a couple weeks after I've finished it. I'm mostly thinking about Claire's reasoning not to escape when she could have. I like that there's hope in the end... but I kept thinking Claire would do something more with the gun.
62304 I'm finally at a place where she strikes back a bit... which is good... but still tough to read! It's very well written...
62304 I'm beginning to read the book just now, and its subject matter is hard for me to get through, specifically the scenes of what happens to the girl once she's abducted. I'm rooting for the detective, and for the Claire... and wondering what's going on in the house...
62304 So... what did you think about Finding Claire Fletcher by Lisa L Regan?

62304 Hi! We need to re-open nominations for books to read in Feb.-March.

(We'd originally chosen Seasons, but since it's not available yet on multiple ereading platforms, we're going to hold out until it's more widely distributed. Not everyone has a Kindle, and not everyone wants to buy a paperback! I'll keep an eye on the book. BTW, the author is super nice. I contacted her to ask if she had plans to distribute it to other e-reading platforms.)

So, what book would you like to read and discuss in Feb.-March? The book must be indie published and must be available on multiple ereading platforms.

Let me know by next Tuesday; I'll open the poll for voting on Wednesday.

Thanks so much!
62304 I just finished also. Yes, the book certainly felt real. And you're right that the real thriller action begins in Iraq. Kameldorn is such a large character in the book; he's the action hero of the story. But Jon is a hero in another sense for certain. I'm wondering if those stooges at the university pulling the strings and halting Jon's PhD ever will get their comeuppance.

I really liked the talk about 59% through the book about lessons taken and "is it worth it." I also enjoyed the dreams in Camp Saif; the way they were told, it reminded me a lot of The Things They Carried short story (in a good way).

Lately I've been reading much, much lighter novels, but I found myself enjoying this meaty read, which kept my mind engaged and my fingers itching to turn the pages and see what happens to all the characters. Not an easy feat.
62304 I'm about 60 percent through the read. And for what the book deals with, looking back, I'm partly surprised about the opening chapter. When Dale Amidei could have opened with an action-packed scene in Iraq with an assassin tracking/killing a terrorist, or even with us looking at evil minds at work, he chose to begin with Jon hurrying to get ready for a university meeting.

So what surprises me is, instead of hooking readers with action, Amidei begins by hooking readers (at least this reader) onto a character. If he hadn't begun the novel with us looking at Jon, I must admit I wouldn't feel so attached to him. I would have eagerly hurried past Jon to the action-driving character/s. Especially K. 'Cuz Iraq is where the *action* action is at, and the action at the university isn't as life-and-death action.

62304 I think Elise is talking about our next read, Seasons. It's only on Kindle, and I'm so sorry I didn't realize this before opening the poll. I'm in total agreement with Elise. In the future, the only books we'll consider are those available on multiple ebook platforms. Thanks, Elise, and I apologize.

62304 Hi! Welcome to the group! Anyone can join, so feel free to jump right in, and invite your friends!

We don't have a board yet where we share reviews or discuss books other than the ones we're currently reading. Good idea!

Sorry it's taken me a while to respond to this thread! It's been a busy month. Please feel free to ask anything!

:)
62304 The Anvil of the Craftsman by Dale Amidei We're reading this book by Dale Amidei Dec. 2012-Jan. 2013, so long as the world doesn't end as the Mayans predict. Once you've finished reading, please share your thoughts!

62304 Here's my new release! It's a short story, a Christmas mystery. Jade O'Reilly and the 12 Days of Christmas by Tamara Ward

62304 Hi, everyone! I got some great feedback last month on the direction of our group. Thank you!

It sounds like many people like the idea of reading a book every other month. Another member had the idea of choosing a couple books in advance, giving us extra reading time. So... let's nominate books! I'll give us until the end of the week to nominate an indie read. Then I'll list the books in a poll. The two books with the most votes will be the ones we'll read, one in December-January and one in Feb.-March.

We're open for nominations of indie books by authors inside AND outside the group. If you've got a book in mind, please nominate it by replying to this discussion thread. Include the book title, author, the genre.

Nominations will close on Saturday. I'll send out a group message when the voting is open.

Nominate away!

P.S. The idea for a discussion thread on new releases and promotions has been a huge success! Thanks!

62304 Hi! I received a fantastic suggestion from group member Kassandra Lamb (http://www.goodreads.com/KassLamb) to open this thread.

Authors, do you have a new release, a giveaway, a promotion, or a contest you'd like to let the group know about? Please post about it in this thread!
