94676 Our first selection for our Blogger's Bookshelf Book Club is Tales Of The Peculiar by Ransom Riggs!

Suggested by Ria, this beautifully illustrated short story collection is a spin-off from the popular Miss Peregrine's series. With an intriguing premise that promises unique stories set in a wonderfully mystical world we think this is the perfect title to launch our book club and can't wait to dive in!

Don't worry if you haven't caught up on the rest of the series yet, not all of us have either and this is one of the reasons we think it's a great choice for our first BB Book Club pick! It isn't essential to have read the Miss Peregrine's series in order to enjoy these short stories and we think it's going to be interesting to hear from both those who are familiar with this world and those who aren't.

We would love it if you'd like to join in and read along any time over the next month, then complete this Google form - https://goo.gl/forms/WTpqfo44HVkqGU063 - by 19th January to share your opinions with us. You can also use the hashtag #bookshelfbookclub to share your book photos and thoughts with us!

94676 To celebrate five whole years of Blogger's Bookshelf we've decided to embark on a new adventure by starting our very own online book club! We're always looking for new ways to collaborate and share the love of books so a book club seemed like the perfect next step for BB.

We'll be taking it in turns to select the book club reads every month throughout 2018 and to keep things interesting we've also chosen a simple overall theme we'll all have to stick to when we make our selections. The theme we've chosen is 'Short Stories' which may include a wide variety of reads such as novels under 200 pages, novellas, graphic novels, poetry collections and of course, short story collections. We're excited to discover new reads that fit the theme and by keeping the reads nice and short and we hope you'll be able to find a little time to join in too.

Each new book will be introduced in a blog post by the team member who has selected it, we'll then be inviting you to read it along with us over the following few weeks, with a Google form for you to submit your thoughts for the final roundup.

We hope that you'll join us on our new adventure, whether it be every month or a handful of times throughout the year.

94676 We're now planning for our very last group collaboration of 2015 and as usual we'll be talking about our favourite reads of the year.

If you'd like to be involved all we need is a list of your top 5 reads of 2015!

We'll need your answers by December 10th and the post will go live on the 12th.

We can't wait to hear which books you've loved the most this year!

94676 For June's group post we're asking you to get creative and compile a playlist of songs to accompany a book!

As you may have seen, Ria often includes a 'reading soundtrack' to go alongside each book in the format of her reviews and we thought this would be a really fun idea for a group post.

If you'd like to get involved all you need to do is send us these details:

- the title and author of your chosen book
- a five song playlist (including song titles and artists) that you think would compliment the story well

You may wish to choose one of your favourite reads or maybe one that has a distinctive tone or particular subject matter you think would suit a specific genre or song - it's totally up to you!

The deadline to send in your submissions will be June 17th and the final playlists will be featured on our blog on June 20th.

We're looking forward to hearing your answers!

94676 There's still time to get your answers in! If you'd like to be featured in the blog post this Saturday just let us know which 5 fictional characters you would invite to your dinner party!
Apr 12, 2015 06:22AM

94676 This month we're talking Fictional Dinner Parties!

One of the questions we love to ask as part of the Being A Book Blogger series is which 5 fictional characters you would invite to your dream dinner party, so for April's post we thought we would open up this fun question to all of our contributors.

If you want to take part in this month's post all we need is:

- a list of the 5 fictional characters you would invite to your dinner party (please also include which book they are from if they are a less well-known character)

- a short sentence or two about why you have chosen each character

Optional: if you'd like to you can also let us know what food you would serve to your guests!

The post is due to go live on April 25th so we'll need your answers by the 21st.

Thanks!

1. The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton
2. Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier
3. Just Kids by Patti Smith
4. The Listeners by Leni Zumas
5. More..."

Thank you Jennie! We'll include these in the blog post :)

Also, I'm afraid to say I haven't read any of them so I'll have to pop them on my list too!

94676 Later this month we'll be sharing our favourite reads of the year and we'd love to hear about yours too! If you'd like to be involved in our December group post all you need to do is leave us a comment or send an email to bloggersbookshelf@gmail.com with a list of your top 5 reads of the year.

We're looking forward to hearing all of your recommendations!

94676 Update - there is also a second option for anyone who still wants to get involved.

As some people have been struggling to think of a book that hasn't yet been adapted that they would like to see here is an alternative option:

1. Choose up to 3 existing film adaptations of books you enjoyed

2. Tell us why you were disappointed / give an example of a scene that wasn't what you had expected / something you would change

3. Re-cast the film - tell us who you would have liked to have seen take on the roles

You're free to tell us about an adaptation you enjoyed but keep in mind the topic is 'If We Made The Movies' so the idea is really to talk about what we would have done differently.

If you want to tell us about a few films for each option that would be great too! You don't have to choose one or the other - e.g 1 choice of film that does not already exist & 2 that do

The last day to get your responses in is November 20th
Oct 20, 2013 12:01PM

94676 For the month of November the group post topic is – ‘If We Made The Movies…’.

That rather vague title means we want to know about your dream book to film adaptations!

There are so many amazing books that have not yet been brought to the big screen and we want to hear which ones you would most like to see… and, just for fun, who you pictured in the main roles as you were reading.

If you’d like to get involved and share your thoughts here is what you’ll need to send us:

1. The names of up to 3 books or book series, not yet adapted into films, that you would like to see come to the big screen in the future

2. A couple of sentences about why you think they would make great movies and/or which scenes you would most like to see come to life

3. Finally, the fun part - cast your film! Let us know which actors you would choose to play some of the main characters and why

We will need all replies by November 20th.

Have fun casting your films – I can’t wait to read your answers!

94676 Hi everyone,

For our next group post we're taking a break from the norm and talking favourite non-fiction!

Let us know if you have any non-ficiton recommendations!
Jul 08, 2013 07:20AM

94676 We're looking for lots of submissions for our guest post slots at BB!

Whether it be a full length review, a top 5 list, a discussion about an upcoming adaptation or anything in between. All ideas are welcome so if you'd like to write it for us then we'd like to hear from you!

If you have a book-related blog post idea that you think we would love to read please get in touch. Send an email to bloggersbookshelf@gmail.com with your idea and we will get back to you ASAP.

94676 This month we have something nice and simple for you - we're revisiting our discussion on book covers!

Previously we asked you to send us your opinions on book covers and this month we want to know about your favourites.
Here's what we would like you to do:

- Send us a list of up to 3 book covers that you love - since there are usually multiple cover designs for books please give a little information indicating which one you are referring to (something like the colour or what the image is should be fine)

- If you'd also like to send as a sentence or two about why you have chosen it then please do - we would love to know!

If you'd like to get involved leave a comment reply here, tweet us @blog_bookshelf or email bloggersbookshelf@gmail.com

Hope to hear from lots of you soon!

94676 The topic Ria & I have chosen for July's post is 'Wish You Were Where?' & what we want to know is...

If you could visit any place from a book, real or fictional, where would you choose and why?

From Middle-Earth to Hogwarts, New York to Paris, we want to know your ideal holiday destination and which book made you dream of visiting that place!

The post is due to go up on July 6th so I'll need any submissions by the 3rd to allow time to get it all together.

I would like to ask that you try, if possible, to keep your answers under 50 words (to fit in with the design of the post).

Looking forward to hearing your answers!
