Night Walker an Australian vampire novel based in modern Sydney.

Raised by her aunt as a baby after the death of her father and her mother being institutionalized, Alexandra "Alex" Hensley grew up determined to put the past behind her. As such, her boyfriend Matt and best friend Lauren, became her new family, and her love for them was unquestioned.

On a night out, the trio meet Dante Delavega, owner of the hottest nightclub in Sydney. Despite Lauren's advances, Delavega hovers over Alex like a mysterious, protective shadow, all but completely ignoring her friends. His actions flatter Alex but confuse and anger both Lauren and Matt.

To prevent losing the two people that have been there for her for as long as she can remember, Alex feels she owes it to them and herself to find out what it is about Dante that is pulling them apart. But once she delves into his world, Alex cannot go back. For Dante holds the key to the truth about her family. When Alex discovers what really happened to her parents, she unlocks an Australian secret kept hidden since the First Fleet.

But no truth comes without a cost. A secret of this magnitude has remained due to one simple rule: they join us or die. Suddenly, Matt and Lauren disappear and the true battle begins.

Hi Dan. I had been sitting on a manuscript idea for quite a while. I just couldn't decide on the tone of the piece. I thought a bit more light hearted, sweet, with a few scares in between. Basically Buffy in book form, set in Australia. Then I got told of this Twilight business, that it was the "greatest vampire story ever". So I was loaned a copy.
Needless to say I kept the book for ten months. That's how long I needed to painfully finish it. Then I did research. I thought this had been written by a pre teen. Sadly not. Then I read some quotes by SMeyer about her own work that sickened me. She compares her work and "love story" to that of literary greats and says it's far superior.
Finally, I had all the motivation I needed. Suddenly Night Walker became clear in my mind. Adult. Violent. Lust. Love of family and friends more so than soppy romance, and a hero that doesn't treat the heroine like a dog. And no sparkling.
I made my vampires have different abilities, and some choose to not kill humans, but they all drink human blood. There is no substitute. Males cannot produce children, and they can only achieve erections as they drink. This law will not change in my series if i suddenly need a creepy pregnancy. To give her credit, Meyer has shown me the exact things not to do. Such as the way to treat my readers and changing her own rules to suit the story

My name is Aaron L Speer and I absolutely loathe and detest Twilight and Meyer's writing :-). Though I have to thank her because without her rubbish I would not have been disgusted enough to get off my bum and finish my manuscript.
